I had mine out on the 30th :) I can say I feel great! I know it's only been a few days, but I really do feel great! I am not tired when I wake up after 7 hours of sleep, I am actually sleeping! Bad thing is I got my period the day i got it out so I have to wait til it's done to start checking weight loss! I will be reposting as the weeks go by to note any changes! I will never get this in again! If we do get pregnant this will be my last anyway, as I am 36 & have 3 kids, 18, 8, 3! I will just get fixed & be done, lol! I had the Norplant when it was available & I loved it, it was nothing like this! Old me here I come, lol!!

I had my Implanon put in 6 months ago.. at first everything seemed fine, then i gained weight which i thought was my eating after 5 months i felt horrible on a daily basis' i would get migraines about 5 times a week, i felt sick to my stomach everyday, became terribly deppressed, and since the implant i've gained about 30 pounds. I never thought something to prevent pregnancy could make you feel so horrible, i never want to do anything and have no energy. i'm so pissed about this implant and i'm getting it taken out asap.. hopefully me writing this will stop someone from getting it and going through what i went through.

I decided to go for the implant as i'd tried the injection in 2009 and it made me moody and very depressed, so the nurse told me the implant would be better for me due to the lower dosage in hormones. The thought of the coil scared me, as the procedure for fitting it seemed so invasive  She also said all i'd experience were irregular periods. I thought why not, that's enough to handle. My boyfriend hated condoms, so we thought this was the best option. That was 6th June. About a month later I had the worst moods swings, was tired all the time, always bloated, constant headaches, crying for no reason, becoming quite violent, no energy, my sleeping pattern changed. I went from sleeping until my alarm went off, to waking up a good hour or two before it was due to go off. My sex drive dropped dramatically. My boyfriend thought i didn't fancy him anymore :( Me and my boyfriend went from being the happiest couple ever, to arguing constantly literally every day and broke up several times. My period wasnt too bad. When i came on it was just light and lasted for about 10-15 days, and that was it, but obviously because it was on for so long, there wasn't much time left, before it all started again!
I became very down. When we both realised it was because of the implant, i decided to get it out.

I got it taken out at the end of August, so i suffered for about 3 months! When i got it taken out, my period was just starting, so it disappeared again and i actually managed to go on holiday and get some sun for a week! :) However, i had a period about two weeks ago and it was awful. It was really heavy i had to change every 2 hours (Sorry TMI i know). I thought having it taken out would solve everything, but im still feeling very down and have even had colleagues at work say they want the old me back that smiled and was great fun to be around cos im just moody now. My boyfriend also broke up with me last week because of the arguing and he cant deal with my mood swings anymore. He doesn't seem to understand, or even remember, that 4 months ago i was a completely different person...a happy person. I have started taking St Johns Wort, just to see if that helps things move a long a bit quicker, cos i just wanna be me again! The happy person i once once before i decided to put rubbish in my body. Im dreading my next period!

I wish my ex boyfriend could see this, just so he knew that i wasn't the only one going through this due to stupid hormones. It's crazy they dont tell you about the REAL side effects you get from contraception. Obviousy not everyone suffers, but the odds of that seem very low. I really do hope more women see these posts before they decide to get the implant and it actually prevents you from doing so, because it'll be one of the worst mistakes you will ever make!

Hi Ladies!

I had my nexplanon (newer version) put in at some point in Jan. Since then i had nothing but problems with it, gained lots of weight and caused me to be ill!! HOWEVER my doctor refused to remove it for atleast 6 months for an 'adaption period' even though it was clear to every other tom dick and harry that it didnt agree with me!

I went to the doctors in july and asked to have it removed...simple enough i was lead to believe? NOT SO EASY AFTERALL! Due to the idiot that inserted it putting it in the wrong place and it embedding itself over 2CM UNDER THE SKIN!!! I have since been palmed off to several different places...Family planning centres, the hospital for scans to find it, then told id have to travel to plymouth (over 2 hours away) just to have to removed!!

Upon getting it removed on monday i was treated like some kind of circus freak with everyone wanting to watch it being removed! i had to have a large insertion and lots of tissue removed from my arm for them to be able to see and remove it. A simple 10 minute procedure...over an hour later and i was finally rid of it!....and the pain now is almost unbearable still!!

I would NEVER have one of these inserted again and would strongly advise people against it!! I mean im not a moaner and have a high pain threshold...but this was and still is ridiculous!! The NHS at their very best.

Hope this helps some people!! as its certainly made me feel a bit better to get it off my chest :) x

golaswat wrote:Thanks everyone for sharing. I have had some of the side effects including weight gain and it affected me so much that i had it out in only 4 months. I have got my periods back but yet to get back to my previous weight. Has someone lost weight since the removal, i seem to be only gaining further :(

I got Implanon in May 2010. I had been using Depo Provera injections (every 12 weeks) for about two years they were great then it seemed like my body suddenly didn't like them and I became very ill,. didn't want the coil and the doctor recommended implanon, saying that it had less hormones and practically no side effects. I really wish I had read this forum before I had it put in!!

I got it taken out in April this year having had it in for 11 months and gained 3 stone. Had no periods at all for the whole time I was on it. Had the most awful moodswings, complete loss of sex drive, sweats, tiredness, achey muscles, headaches. The doctors tested my thyroid and even to see if I had an early menopause (I am only 40!) but everything came back clear and it was the implanon. I have only lost about 8lbs since having it taken out. I think it has seriously messed up my body and it will take quite some time to get the hormones out of my system. Am hoping by really upping the cardio through running I will be able to sweat this weight off. But it certainly is not dropping off like I hoped it would when I had the damned thing removed. But at least I have stopped putting it on!

I have had the implanon in since April 2010 and period wise it has been fine. I have had a few bleeds here and there but nothing like some of you poor girls have experienced. What my problem is is the weight gain - I have put on so much solid mass it is stupid. I am not eating any more and even employed a personal trainer but absolutely no weight loss. I tried Slimfast for a week and stuck to it absolutely religously but again, not even a pound lost. The personal trainer I had said that he worked with a girl previously who was also a personal trainer and she had massive weight gain when she had hers put in so I dont care what people say on here that it doesnt cause weight gain because it clearly does in some people! I am finally getting mine out next week and I cant wait. I will let you know how I get on!

It has been one month since I had it removed, best thing I ever did!! I lost 5lbs, my sex drives is back in full force :) No more headaches, but I am still having some mood issues, I don't believe that it's out of your system as soon as it's removed because I am still emotional & have some insecurity issues I never had before. My last period was 2 days of heavy bleed & 2 days of spotting & that was it! Hoping in another month I will feel even better :) Will never have it in again, and do not recommend it for anyone!!

Re: Implanon contraceptive

Postby Airman » Fri Nov 04, 2011 6:17 pm

So wonderful to see that I am not the only "rare expection" my doctor told me about. Had the implant put in 22APR2010 and rather quickly began my new "normal" flow of having a three week period, one week off, then three weeks on again. I my appetite was insatiable the first three months; however, that has calmed down. What bothers me is not so much the period problems, but the mood swings, hot flushes, and severe depression that comes on with my PMS that prompted me to remove the dang thing myself in my kitchen on 30OCT2011. I became so overcome with depression that I wanted to end my life- but this was just a hormonally induced mood swing. Terrifying that hormones can nearly drive someone to kill themselves- litterally a few hours later I would be back to normal. I saught help from a general practictioner who prescribed "prozac" and suggested the implanon was perhaps the root of my problems. That weekend I took it out myself. Currently on my 37th day of my period... but mood is stabilizing. My implanon was broken, not completely in half, but it was definitely a damaged/defective product. Glad to have it out.

Re: Implanon contraceptive implant

Postby Googleybear81 » Sun Nov 06, 2011 1:44 pm

Hi Ladies, just thought I'd share my experience on Implanon, I have mine inserted back in March 2009 so my 3 years are almost done, I don't hink I'll be having another one or Nexplanon either. Ok yes the huge reason for having one fitted is to prevent pregnancy which for me it has done so, although I must say with the irregular periods we've done some tests to be certain, especially after those 500 or so women have been caught out due to it not being inserted at the right 'cycle' time.
So it did it's job there!
However it's been nothing but a right pain, first came the acne on my face, around my hair and jawlines. I didn't even get this during puberty!
I have also put on about 2 stone since having it fitted, but this could also be my lifestyle an being 30 very soon I don't suppose weight stays off the same as it does in your early 20's.
The thing that's really got me down is the irregular bleeding I use to have a cycle of 32 days well before any oral contraceptive pills which I've also tried many kinds combined and mini too.
At the moment they last about 15 days but I can go 6 weeks without anything. But they are so unpredictable I was on a period on my honeymoon and again whilst on holiday, how unfair!

One thing that is very worrying I had an abnormal smear back in February and had to have Lletz treatment in May for CIN3 cells, I've got the have my 6 month review and possible treatment next week I hope they've got rid of the abnormal cells, but I can't help but wonder if it's the Implanon that's caused this, both me any my hubby have been tested for all the STI's, so I've not had Chlamydia which can be the main cause of problems.

All in all I want this taken out, preferably before March.

Hi,

I had Implanon put in two years ago. I've gained 6 stone in this time, I don't have the healthiest lifestyle but even my doctor agrees that this weight gain is excessive to say the least, especially as in the past two months I have done minimum half an hour walking a day and haven't lost ANYTHING.

Only after reading this thread I came to realise that the Implanon is also related to my severe mood swings I have had during the past two years. I really think women need to be told about these side affects before going on any of these implants. I am getting this removed this day two weeks which will be exactly two years to the day I had it put in. I cannot wait and hope my weightloss will follow soon after. :)

Hi girls - well I had my Implanon out on Thursday last week. I cant lie, it was really horrible, although not painful, as the tissue had built up around it after 2.5 years. Anyway, doc sent me on my way with a stitch, which I am having out later today. I can honestly say, I feel SO SO much better already!! I am up off the sofa wanting to do things, I am happy, positive and alert and I understand these things could be all in my head but I DONT CARE!!! I do feel great! I can see that this must have affected my overall life. When the doc (private - I paid to have it removed) asked me why I was having it out I said, weight gain, bowel problems etc etc and he just agreed with me. Not weighed myself yet but will let you know if I lose and also if I get into 'sexy' mood again lol xxx

Implanon contraceptive implant-weight loss after remova

Postby kscahill » Thu Nov 10, 2011 6:33 am

I'm having my "consultation" on Friday 18th about getting my 1year old Implant out. I'm frustrated as I have to take a day off work firstly to attend and they may not take it out there and then. Do you need to be mid cycle for it?
I felt I gained 1/2 a stone in weight, but the main problem was with my emotions and skin problems. I could cry at a drop of a hat. I experience severe period pains but no period for the first 6 month, the last 6 months I have had periods (which are heavy) but they are NEVER regular. I'm going straight back on the pill. My only worry is having to weight for my period to start so I can take the pill again!?!
