"Ellen DeGeneres coming home to help Brad Pitt 'Make It Right'"

DeGeneres has signed on to host “A Night to Make It Right,” a gala that aims to raise enough money to finish Pitt’s goal of building 150 environmentally friendly houses in the neighborhood that was virtually wiped out after the levee breaches in 2005. Seventy-five ultra-modern homes are finished, and DeGeneres and her fans have raised more than $1.6 million, so far helping 300 people return home.

“I’m so happy I can be a part of this incredible foundation,” DeGeneres said. “Brad Pitt is amazing — not only for what he started, but also because, who else can make a hard hat look like a jaunty fall fashion accessory?”

Pitt probably will leave the hard hat at home in the French Quarter that night, when Mayor Mitch Landrieu serves as honorary co-chair. Details are still being worked out, but a press release promises the party will feature “a guest list of major entertainers, political leaders, corporate donors and philanthropists … a dinner menu celebrating the finest culinary traditions of New Orleans, and grand afterparty.”

The gala will double as the grand reopening of the Superdome-adjacent Hyatt Regency New Orleans, which has been closed since 2005. Earlier this year, the Hyatt kicked off the fundraising with a donation of $300,000 to the foundation.

They should look at the fact that ~30 houses have been built so far with ~ $40 million before they donate.

Why does he have to raise more money when their financial data as of 12/31/09 is:

(yr. ended 12/31/2009)
Total Assets: $40,781,113
Total Giving: $106,269

I already stopped watching her show when she announced she would have him on. I won't ever watch her again.
Ellen is a sell out.

That's very convenient that after all this time, he wants money for his "cause" and of course lots of press to go with it.

HOME
Hyatt Regency New Orleans and Make It Right proudly announce an extraordinary fundraising campaign to complete Make It Right’s goal to build 150 environmentally-friendly homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward, the neighborhood hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Founded by actor Brad Pitt, Make It Right is the internationally-known non-profit organization dedicated to rebuilding New Orleans’ poorest communities with safe, green and affordable homes.

In March 2012, Hyatt Regency New Orleans and Make It Right will host “A Night to Make It Right,” a fundraising gala that will celebrate the iconic hotel’s re-opening and help to raise vital funds toward the completion of Make It Right’s goal. To kick-off fundraising efforts and demonstrate its commitment to this initiative, Hyatt Regency New Orleans is donating $300,000 to build two Make It Right homes in the Lower 9th Ward.

Opening October 19th, the landmark hotel’s generous sponsorship of the grand opening charity gala includes cash and in-kind donations for production costs directly associated with the gala event. Proceeds from the event’s corporate sponsors and ticket sales will go directly to building Make It Right homes. Led by Honorary Chairperson Brad Pitt, who has been a leading voice for the city, the gala will celebrate the culinary and cultural traditions of New Orleans, as well as attract a guest list of major entertainers, government officials, business leaders and philanthropists who have played a key role in Make It Right’s rebuilding efforts.

Details about this exciting event will be released over the next few months. Please check back here for information.

The night to make it right does not mention Ellen participating at the party.

I hope $150,000 buys a better home than this

Pardon me, they call that a duplex. In real estate a duplex is for two families and that's not big enough for one.

Those are the houses he built? WOW! I remember reading somewhere that he was trying to SELL the houses because making them green was not cheap. I never got how he got the nads to charge to build a house for charity on someone else's property
