Hi... I was just wondering whether or not it would be possible to have Implanon removed after a BCG vaccine. I just had the vaccine and want implanon out but would it affect the vaccine in any way??

zoeadelle wrote:Hi girls - well I had my Implanon out on Thursday last week. I cant lie, it was really horrible, although not painful, as the tissue had built up around it after 2.5 years. Anyway, doc sent me on my way with a stitch, which I am having out later today. I can honestly say, I feel SO SO much better already!! I am up off the sofa wanting to do things, I am happy, positive and alert and I understand these things could be all in my head but I DONT CARE!!! I do feel great! I can see that this must have affected my overall life. When the doc (private - I paid to have it removed) asked me why I was having it out I said, weight gain, bowel problems etc etc and he just agreed with me. Not weighed myself yet but will let you know if I lose and also if I get into 'sexy' mood again lol xxx

hey to all you ladies out there i had the implanon put in aug 2009 and i was on a serious health kick so i worked my butt off, i then lost around 30kgs...
but once i got back into the normal swing of life my weight kept climbing.... and climbing.... and climbing.
with gaining weight i had worked so hard to lose there was a really bad downward spiral because i felt so defeated and hurt as i finally felt good about myself and let all the hard work go astray, I have a daughter and dont want her to have negative body images so it was so hard to suffer in silence and even my partner assumed i was lying when i would say that i was working out and eating right, poor boy must have thought i had a secret stash of junk i was eating all day when he was at work.
it hadn't crossed my mind that is was the impanon untill i was talking to a friend about how we couldn't understand how when i eat healthy and work out 3 times a week that i am gaining so fast, i told her i was on the implanon and she said to get it removed.
I had it taken out on tuesday and it its now saturday and its oven taken me by surprise but i have lost 4kgs and i have been eating the same and only worked out once.
so if you have it and are gaining weight then get it out your body doesnt like it, you might not have the same results as me as we are all different but I couldn't be happier, still in shock but in a good way... hopefully my hard work and will power will pay off this time and stay that way.
even my doctor said that some people pile it on with it so I guess it depends on the person.
this is just me though everyone is different, but i am pretty happy and intend on staying that way- For good!

implanon & yeast

Postby breadbox » Fri Nov 18, 2011 5:22 am

I'm 25 years old. Had implanon inserted in my left arm 7 months ago, and had it removed about one month ago. I was told I would not be able to feel it, and that I would have no periods.

After having it inserted, I had my period for 2.5 months straight, with maybe a one-day break every couple of weeks. I was horrified.

I could feel the little plastic rod in my arm. Sometimes the injection site would swell and itch. Sometimes you could see an outline of it through my skin. And if you're wondering, I'm really not a super skinny girl, I'm 5'4'' and weigh 140lbs (but 15 of those lbs came after having the implant inserted. I had the doctors calculate when I had it removed.)

I lost my sex drive. COMPLETELY. Libido, gone. I couldn't even flirt with a man. No one looked attractive. I tried having sex with an old boyfriend once, someone I love, always look forward to seeing... He came for a visit, and I was completely uninterested, dry, unarousable. I got sick with a bad cold, and low immunity brought on a yeast infection. It would NOT go away.

Oh, I also got a really terrible case of athletes foot. No prescription strength cream would put a dent in that problem. This is NOT normal for me. But I didn't attribute it to implanon initially.

So, I had the thing removed.
I drove away from the doctor and 2 hours later, removed my long sleeves only to see that the ENTIRE bandage was soaked through with my blood. Had to go back for a new bandage.

I have since gained even more weight (actually had to start buying new pants.)
My athlete's foot cleared up within DAYS of having the stick removed.
I have had that yeast infection now for 3 months (really bad in the first month, thought it was an STD. Now, just stinky cottage cheese symptom. Appalling.)

I want to know if anyone else is having the same type of fungal/yeast effect. I'm ready for it to clear up now. I took a pill from my doctor the day I had it removed, which made the real pain go away. I've been drinking tons of water and eating yogurt every day since...

I haven't seen any other posts about these side effects... Anyone??

Hi girls

i'm 38 and had my implanon out 3 weeks ago. Although i had the bliss of no periods for over 2 years, i gained 15 pounds (10 of which i lost within 3 days of implanon being removed!).

For 2 years i experienced waves of nausea, sore breasts ( i thought i was pregnant several times), lethargy, declining sex drive, extreme depression and general feelings of being unwell. I also experienced the yeast infections that another lady spoke about and feeling constantly hungry.

I feel so much better now it is out. Just wondering how long before i get my first period and how long before i start ovulating properly as my husband and i are trying for a baby. The websites say you are fertile as soon as the implant is removed but some ladies on these forums say they still are not ovulating or having periods 2 years after their implants were removed!

finally coming to my senses!

Postby prettykitty » Sat Dec 03, 2011 5:29 am

I am SO thrilled to have found this forum. I have been considering having my implant removed for about a month now, and now I know it's the right thing to do. I got Implanon inserted just about two years ago, upon the insistence/demand of my mother. I was seventeen and not living at home and I guess she was worried I was at a high risk for becoming pregnant. She knew I was bad with taking my daily vitamins even so she didn't trust me to take an BC pill orally every day, plus our insurance covered most of the cost of the rod and the procedure so I thought why not.
I got it inserted in December 2009 and since then I have been miserable. The first three weeks I was bleeding a lot, then for three weeks after that it just turned into light spotting. But I bled for six whole weeks--it was unbelievable. I was living with my best friend at the time and I literally started hating him. I see now it was just due to these awful hormones coursing through me. Every little thing upset me to the point I thought I was going to explode from rage. I would wake up angry; I would go to sleep crying. Often I would stay in bed for most of the day. I started skipping class and work frequently, and I had always been a really dedicated student and a good employee. I simply didn't care about anything. Repercussions meant nothing to me.
I gave myself time to adjust, thinking that I would start feeling normal again if I just waited a bit longer. I think the only thing that changed was the fact that I started thinking my feelings and behaviour was normal. I didn't gain too much weight--I started out at about 118 or so and now I'm 125, but I'm also in college so who knows if it's due to the implant or not. I didn't get bad acne either. And after I stopped spotting after those six weeks, I haven't had my period at all, which is rather strange to me, but it's not been a bad thing. The worst thing has been the emotional changes. I feel so imbalanced and unstable and often extremely violent. Depression runs in my family and it's become very clear to me in the past two years. I used to be such a happy, spiritual, high-minded person. Sure, I would have normal bouts of teen angst and some depression, but I was never so hopeless, for so long. I've gotten in huge fights with people I love dearly, and those who have stuck around me have suffered greatly. I'm not sure how my boyfriend puts up with me sometimes, I just turn into a monster. I had started to think that that's just who I am, and the old image of myself I had was a terrible delusion. Reading through these comments has confirmed that I'm not insane, I'm just on a birth control that is not right for me. I would like to thank everyone who has shared their stories and inspired me to take the right step towards mental health by having my implant removed. I'm making an appointment ASAP to take it out and possibly get the Paragard (non-hormonal IUD) so I can be me again. I advise those who are considering Implanon to try something else. Although it's convenient doesn't mean it's a right fit in all other regards. And if you already have one and are thinking of removing it, it seems to me that it's a wise choice. Good luck everyone!

Hey guys, I had my implant removed yesterday after 9 months of constant bleeding. It completely drained all the iron out of my body and resulted in me fainting and being quite ill. So I finally had enough! I had to put up a fight with the doctors as they said they wouldnt be able to take it out until next year! But eventually somebody cancelled their appointment so I went in to have it taken out. I didnt feel anything at all, far less painful than having it inserted! It is still bandaged up at the moment. Only thing is I will have a fairly large scar because she had to keep cutting my arm open as the implant was sat firmly in my muscle and didnt want to budge! I feel much better already and im not bloated for once! :-)

Hi ladies,
I had my implant removed last week and already got my period back so it came back pretty quickly. Since last week I have been experiencing increasing fatigue and constant tiredness. I can hardly get out of my bed. I have to admit I had gone through it while on implant hence the removal. I have put on a stone and a half and now, I highly doubt this will come off naturally. I've been on a healthy diet anyway but kept putting on and on and one which made me pretty depressed. My boobs have gone up by two sizes but I'm hoping that now, when it's gone at least this part of me will shrink naturally. I would also like my sex drive to reappear. In my case, this implant simply defeated its purpose - killed it. No more hormones for me!

Hello ladies.

I'd like to thank you all for sharing your experiences here. Seeing this forum was really an eye opener.
I got Implanon about 4 years ago and changed it once after two and a half years. I took it out yesterday.
Seeing your stories made me realize that the side effects I was experiencing were not normal or due to "aging".
The side effects for me are anxiety, low tolerance to stress, moodswings, short temper, depression, ZERO sex drive, low self-esteem, eczema, allergies, oily skin, water retention. My breasts also grew so I got stretch marks :/
I feel incredibly unsexy and rather pregnant.

The bleeding was like most girls describe, irregular, sometimes going on for months, and then not at all. I haven't bled for about a year now, since the second implant. I also think it might be possible that I miscarried once. All in all this was the least of my problems!

Weight gain and inability to lose weight no matter if exercising or not or the type of diet. I was vegetarian for 13 years which also contributed to health problems, and I felt better from switching to a home made, clean veggies and meat only diet, but no matter the type of diet or if I was consuming 3500kcal or 300kcal per day or even not eating at all, my weight or measurements stayed the same! Incredibly frustrating.

I've been with my boyfriend since I put in the Implanon (I got it a month after we met), and it hurts me so much that he hasn't had the chance to know the real me, or that I am unable to go to bed with him.
It feels like the implant has changed my personality. While some people cry easily etc when they go on the pill, I became the exact opposite. I am colder than a dead fish! I always find excuses not to hug, cannot socialize with people, cannot laugh or feel sad.

When I put it in, I asked the doctor for the side effects, and the only thing that was mentioned was that it's not good if it isn't inserted properly. Nothing else was mentioned. If I knew all of this, I would've never put it in! It baffles me that they give it away so easily.

It was an agony to get it out, I got it in Europe, but I live in Japan and it is unheard of here, so all of the hospitals refused me. I got so depressed that I still can't go to all my classes properly and I feel like a failure. I also took up smoking, binge eating and binge drinking. So after calling ten more hospitals and visiting others, I got one place that told me they would take it out after I had visited a gyn, and if I paid approx. €1000! I'm a student so it's not possible, so I bought disinfectant and other supplies and tried to cut it out myself, but couldn't cut deep enough. Finally I found a very kind British doctor who removed it for me immediately.
Since yesterday, I feel very relieved, but I still don't feel any different.
I read that some girls didn't get their period even after two years, and many said that they got their sex drive back, but it's not like before. I just want to crawl and hide in a corner!

It's been 3 weeks since i hade it take out. Actually, I don't feel any better. I've already had my period which lasted 10 day and I'm dieting pretty heavily. I haven't lost any weight whatsoever. Sometimes, I can go on without eating anything apart from a bowl of a home made vegetable soup with no fat or salt in it. it makes me wonder how one cannot shed any weight almost running on empty. i feel constantly tired and feel bad for my partner as, still there is no sign of my old sex drive. We've only been together for 10 months and this awful plastic rod has been with us from the begining. I want to be myself again!

I had my implanon out yesterday, I had it put in 8 months after I had my son, following what could have been a near miss with condoms. I have reduced mobility, so already knew that the combined pill wasn't an option, and I had a lot of problems with the depo provera, weight gain, depression and once it was out, two years of unexplained infertility and an early miscarriage before I got pregnant with my son. The implanon suited me fine, my weight stayed about the same, my moods were fine and I had no periods. I was really happy with it and would have recommended it to anyone! However, in May, I had a period that lasted for two weeks and it really scared me. I'd been told that because I was quite overweight that it might start to wear off before the 3 years was up, so the FPC arranged an appointment and checked the implant site, told me further research had shown that it didn't wear off early and I was sent off and told all is fine. I also decided at this point I should lose some weight and joined Slimming World, and successfully lost almost 4 stones with the implant in. These 2 week long periods became more frequent and longer, so I went to the GP, who advised having swabs taken to rule out any other problems - which there wasn't, and after a week without a bleed, another one started, so I went back to the GP, and was given Northisterone. I figured if I needed to take extra pills to stop it all, I might as well have the implant out and go on the mini pill, but the only place that could remove it was the FPC, so back I go again, answer all the same questions and have them tell me they could put another one in, but I declined.
