I find it hard to believe that teachers aides and teachers are allowed to work without shoes, as there would be a few OH&S issues with that. Most worplaces would insist on some form of footwear being worn. Do they still use drawing pins in schools?

You run a car wrecking business from your house? Does your local council allow that sort of thing? It hardly sounds like the sort of activity that would be permitted under the home occupation guidelines....

Hi
Sorry I wasnt very clear in my last post. My partner owns a car wrecking business in a commercial part of town, but privately he does do some work from home and we sell the parts on the internet. At the moment we have three cars in various stages of being dismantled and bits sold. Any complaints by the neighbours are ignored! There probably is a maximum number of cars you can have, but Im sure its more than three.
As far as being a barefoot teacher aide certainly have no problems, no drawing pins anywhere and my soles are pretty immune now anyway. The teachers usually come in shoes, but certainly in summer they get kicked off pretty quickly.

I'm not sure what the position is in New Zealand, but I wouldn't think it would be greatly different from what it is in Australia. Generally speaking, any commercial activity conducted from residential premises must comply with the home occupation guidelines. These are defined in the Local Environment Plans as being activities that do not involve:
(a) the employment of persons other than those residents, or
(b) interference with the amenity of the neighbourhood by reason of the emission of noise, vibration, smell, fumes, smoke, vapour, steam, soot, ash, dust, waste water, waste products, grit or oil, traffic generation or otherwise, or
(c) the display of goods, whether in a window or otherwise, or
(d) the exhibition of any signage (other than a business identification sign), or
(e) the sale of items (whether goods or materials), or the exposure or offer for sale of items, by retail.

I suspect that if you can keep up to three cars in various stages of dismantling, it is probably some local council policy as to how far things can go before they initiate court action, rather than being some item of legislation that says you can do it.

Some councils police this area more rigorously than others though....

Christ, you sound like a lawyer! Maybe things are different here in NZ, or maybe we wait for a neighbour to complain about the mess on the front yard! They have already complained about my kids running through their gardens and the loud music!
Still I can carry on being barefoot, they havent made that illegal yet!

Well, I prefer to wear sandles as high heel. Because it looks really fabulous on any garments as Jeans, Skirts and so on. Also high heel sandles is a status of party wear. So I like it to wear a lot.

Heels, heels, heels!! All stilettos, none less than 4", most between 4.5 and 5" - I have a shoe reputation in the office. My favourites are usually a plain black patent court with quite a pointed toe and 5" heels, and as short a skirt as my (advanced) age will let me get away with!

Usually flat shoes since I have to walk before I could get to our building and it will be really hard if I'll wear heels.

Hiya Sue

Welcome to FF hope you enjoy it here! did i read that you are a receptionist? just wondering if you have to wear a uniform which your shoes have to compliment?

Got my own 4" heeled black courts on today, what about you?
