O/T Whitney Houston's will

Postby Guest » Thu Mar 08, 2012 10:26 pm

Whitney Houston's will and estate leave no room for confusion. Everything goes to a single heir: Bobbi Kristina Brown, 19, the late singer's one and only child.

And ex-husband Bobby Brown gets nothing.

That's what attorney Kenny Meisalas, who represents Houston, told the Associated Press this week. Unlike other celebrity estates that may be subject to disputes and dueling survivors trying to get their hands on the riches, Houston's estate was apparently well-managed and organized. Meisalas said the execution of the will was quite "straightforward."

“Things with the family have been very smooth, no problems,” he told the news service. He added that everything was proceeding normally, and that he didn't anticipate any challenges to the will.

Leaving for nothing to your mother shows some real issues.

She probably never dreamed she would die before her mom. Has anyone heard who it was that sold the pics of Whitney to the tabloids.

Did she leave her crack pipe and heroine needles to her daughter or Bobby?

Is it commonplace for adult children who have children of their own to leave things to their own parents in a will?

Good question. Didn't Michael Jackson leave some money for his mother? I believe he did.

I don't know what income Cissy Houston has except the usual Social Security benefits. Maybe Whitney had her mom set up with some kind of investment income. Otherwise Cissy wouldn't have received residuals from anything as she was mainly a backup singer and singers don't residuals anyway - songwriters do.

As Cissy was alive at the time of the drawing of the will one would think that Whitney would set up some contingency inheritance for her mom in case the mom survived her. But the way some people reported Whitney was in debt up to her death. Then the family has been quickly selling off the possessions in her house. Personally even over 2 years after my mom's death I'm still having a hard time going through her possessions. So maybe all wasn't rosy in the Houston family. Who knows?

I read somewhere that will was written before the daughter was born with her getting certain percentages of the money at different ages in her life with the final amount at 30 y/o.
The mother was named as executor so I don't think that there were any issues if she trusted her mother to do that duty. The executrix is usually entitled to fee which is a certain percentage of the estate. Whitney's estate is large. With whatever gifts that Whitney gave her throughout her lifetime and this fee, the mother should be well cared for.

As I recall, Michael left his money to his children with his mother in control of it. I remember Katherine having to go to court to get more of an allowance to care for the children because she said she was living on her Social Security.

I heard tonight that Whitney's will was from 2000 and if anything happens to Kristina, it would go to Bobby Brown. Not sure if it is true because the amount BK was to get was in such small increments until she was 30. The amounts were based on what interest her estate was earning and I think not until BK was 21. It's sad but the poor girl may end up with nothing right now. I heard Whitney had huge loans from Sony and even with sales going so high after her death, it still wouldn't be enough to cover her loans unless sales stayed steady.

I am sorry, but if my child would be the first person to think about when drawing a will. I love my mom, but if I have kids then yeah the first would be my kids. Imagine the mom is already old and has other kids that could support her and she might also not live that long. Considering Whitney didn't have that much money left, the only logical solution would be to leave that money to her 19 year old daughter who would actually need that money more than her mom. And honestly I doubt that her mom is going to be poor in any way. All those people in her family are going to get money is some way, but so what if she didn't include her mom.I honestly didn't expect her mom to be on there considering the amount of money she had left.

For Michael Jackson the case is different. His kids were way too young to live on their own and since his mom was left with the role of taking care of his kids, it would make sense for him to leave money for his mom. Michael was also in unfortunate situation in that his brother seem to be poor excuse of men who still depend on their mom to support them and their kids. If he didn't leave money for his mom then the money belonging to his kids would have had to not only support his but also his brothers. Pretty smart if you ask me. Besides Janet and the Older sister, the rest seem to want to capitalize on their brother.

I think celebrities and any parent at that should really have an up to date will when they are children involved. As for loans I think it's quite sad. If I were her adviser when she was spending all her money, I would have advised her to save just 20 million for her child. This things can get messy especially when you are a celebrity. Hollywood might also be full of selfish people, but I doubt any of the so called "Whitney's Friends" would let her daughter live on the streets. I am sure Clive Davis among many others would make sure she is well taken care of.

Some of MJ's brother's teenagers (4?) live with his mother. In her 80's that woman has her hands full, not to mention mean old Joe. Katherine looks and acts amazing for her age. She also seems so kind and I can't see what she ever saw in Joe, he's so weird and never was attractive. She is still beautiful.

Unlike Michael Jackson Whitney didn't have a catalog of songs from which her estate could earn residuals. Or even for a Cirque du Soleil themed show where her estate would profit (her songs were written by other people). Unlike Elvis, Whitney's estate isn't going to have that draw for her fans to visit. Besides Elvis had such cheesy taste his estate has a built-in curiosity factor.

All they can do I would imagine is to sell her personal property but I highly doubt the estate will end up with proceeds as Elizabeth Taylor's estate yielded. Elizabeth Taylor developed a mystique about her with her life story and marriages. And that huge diamond Richard Burton gave her doesn't hurt either.

I'll be interested in those reports of her debt turn out to be true (which I won't doubt).

First that kid needs to go to rehab or else she'll blow whatever inheritance pittance she got.
