I went to an all girls school, though they let boys in nowadays... we had both proper typewriters and one of those big clunky early PCs for "word processing". It was one of those lessons which was optional so naturally I was found in the science lab taking things apart instead. 8)

I subsequently learned from dad that he also spent time doing the same things at school (not the typing bit) and that always amuses me.

I seem to remember most lessons being optional most of the time especially after lunch, except Chemistry which was rather fun because we had a mad scientist teacher who used to teach us how to make contact explosives and other fun things, of course being teenage boys we always surprised him with the amount we made. He never seemed to mind us smoking or drinkin g tea in his lessons either pobably becasue he could then as well, although he got a bit snotty if we added any alcohol to teh tea, never understood that. Come to think of it Biology was good because we got to take lots of frogs and other small animal like things apart. Physics was quite a worthwhile subject too although more becasue we got to put things together there.
AH but best of all was sport that was where you got to try to take humans apart, you have no idea how much most little boys enjoy that!

Unless we ran away from school then there was no escape for us... plus my family had buggered off back down south while I was there. Perhaps they were trying to tell me something.

Try getting a bunch of teenage girls together with some hockey sticks and see what happens. :yikes:

I know what teenage girls with hockey sticks are like Bloody scarry we had an all girls school oposite ours and a few very few impromptu inter school matches were played talk about take no prisoners. Funny they never took us up on our offer to play Rugby against them or even to share the showers!

Heh, there's no proper weapons in rugby.

There was an exclusion zone around our school where boys were never seen... except at night of course when there were always some secret liaisons going on. In fact in the nicer weather it was hard to find some vacant shrubbery for those extra curricular activities sometimes. :rotflmao:

But that is exactly the point about Rugby you don't need weapons, there are far more fun and effective ways of hurting someone than with a bent stick, and nothing quite so satisfying as the squelch made as you open their skin for a deeper look.

I always knew biology practicals were fun though I am not sure the teachers intended them to be that much fun.

I was unaware people played rugby with scalpels. :o

What we didn't know about biology wasn't worth knowing... we had nature lessons too, not in the buff though.
It was good at school, I think it's a shame so many are just being taught to pass exams now... that seems limiting to me but I guess things change.

About the only sharp bit of a rgby kit was the studs and that was never intentional!

nature lessons? In the buff? Good grief NOT at an allboys school thank you!
I think it is an enormous shame that education has become what it has, still I guess it only reflects on what has been taken away from life!

Indeed, I have seen the non intentional stamping of muddy feet to heads...

I can't see the problem myself... it would have been a funny lesson.

What has been taken away from life is self worth... it's all superficial bollox that is made to seem important now... most will realise perhaps, too late.

If most realize then prehaps all is not lost, my very real worry ios that most think this is how it is supposed to be, No humour, No fun, No individualism and certainly No original thought.

Mind I am looking at this from my Quaker influence... I care not for complicated materialistic bollox, and I know plenty others like this. To be happy with one's self is a good start... the stress free life is mostly possible & to keep the people that matter close.

Also personally I've had enough shite in life that I need no more... :hand:

I think there's lots of ideas and original stuff but people don't bother showing it for some reason... too busy doing other stuff I suppose. :?
