‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Heating Up With Angelina Jolie Talk

EXCLUSIVE: You know that the gazillion-selling steamy novel trilogy Fifty Shades Of Grey has reached outlandish proportions when The New York Post devotes today’s front cover to the idea that women are stocking up on ropes to be used for bondage purposes. All of this has apparently been spurred on by the kinky relationship between the couple in the book trilogy. Things are heating up on the movie front as well for Universal Pictures, which won a seven-figure auction to turn the three books into movies. I’ve heard rumors about the possibility of Angelilna Jolie having a conversation or two about directing it. This has been buzzing around for a couple of weeks. The studio says that no discussions have been had, but they note that if she was interested, that the studio would be also. They loved her directorial debut, In The Land Of Blood And Honey. As for Jolie, I’m told she’s completely focused on her next film, Maleficent, at Disney and isn’t entertaining other offers at this moment.

Things should begin taking shape on Fifty Shades Of Grey shortly. Author E.L. James and her agent, Valerie Hoskins, will be coming in from the UK to Hollywood shortly. They will then set a producer first, followed by setting a writer and filmmaker.

How do you get men interested in seeing the film version of a book that’s ultra popular with women? Attach the name Angelina Jolie. Deadline is reporting a rumor that Angelina Jolie, currently prepping to star in the Disney film Maleficent, has had talks with Universal to possibly direct the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, the sexual literary sensation that was purchased by the studio for seven figures.

The books, written by E.L. James, are one of the most popular piece of pop culture in recent memory, focusing on a woman and her explicit, kinky relationship with the title character. Read more after the jump.

Deadline first reported this rumor, though Universal denies it and Jolie couldn’t start the movie for a while even if she was interested. That said, work on the film should start fairly soon as the author plans on helping select and producer and screenwriter in the next few weeks.

The sequels Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed continue their story. The erotically-charged novels have been referred to as “mommy porn” in The New York Times.

Oddly enough, it was actually first based on a piece of Twilight fan-fiction. Which seems fitting as the content of these books is kind of a mature step up from that.

Studio's or producers aren't using Jolie or Pitt.....They themselves fax these news stories and then the studio's and producers and DIRECTORS release a deny. Just like Universal JUST did. Just like Ridley Scott did....when Jolie was faxing that SHE might get the part in The Counselor, his reaction was to send out a news release that Penelope Cruz was being offered the part., which eventually went to Cameron Diaz. Pitt did the same thing. Ridley Scott turned him down for the part of the villain (he cast Javier Bardem instead), but is giving Pitt a teeny tiny cameo role! It smacks of desperation, on the part of Jolie and Pitt especially when it doesn't come to anything.....and then they become the butt of jokes! Pitt is being offered cameo roles. Jolie can't get anything except a fairytale part. Oh all hail the queen and kind of hollywood.......he's become a bit player, playing third banana to MICHAEL FASSBENDER!
