I started taking Dianette two years ago. When I take it, my acne and oily skin seems to be improved and I don't have dysmenorrhea every month. One of the side effects, depression, really bothers me. Thus, i decide to come off this medicine last year.

Once i plan to quit Diane, I did some research from internet. There was a lady who successfully quit daine without big breakout posting her experience on this website. I borrowed her method and revise hers a little bit. In stead of taking one a day, i start to take it a half per day. I bet that some girls will have irregular bleeding because of this. Don't be scared. Keep this. My first phase is to half my dose. And i keep taking it for about half year. Then i go to the second phase. I stopped Diane completely this April. Before I stop in April, I made an appointment with derm, coz i am afriad of the massive breakouts on my face. Derm recommend me use Clindamax lotion in the morning and Tazorac 0.05%at night. At the same time, i read lots of internet experience about how to come off birth control pills. Lots of people take supplements when they stop b.c. pills. I finally made my supplements lists. In the morning, I take fish oil, evening promise oil, centrum, in the afternoon, i take Women's Soy Isoflavones, zinc, vitamin B 50 mg. Meanwhile, I drink Traditional Medicinals Female Toner® Herbal Tea and Organic Spearmint Herbal Tea during the day.

How my plan works?
So far so good. I feel that my skin is under control at this moment.

Here is my tips:
1) set up a plan before you quit b.c. pills.
2) When take the supplements, do not over dose. I take moderate doss and decrease it after i take it for 2 months.

All i share here is my personal experience. It might not work for all. I leaned a lot from the previous posts and benefit from them, so that i come back and share my story. I encourage everyone who try to stop this medicine, no matter succeed or fail, come back to share your story. :D

If sth unexpected happens, i will definitely come back and update.

I have experienced so many problems with dianette.
This pill caused me my first migraine where i saw flashing lights and my sight went away for a bit. I have also come close to fainting, and feel constantly dazed and 'not with it' when taking it.
I put on so much weight I couldnt fit into some of my jeans and shorts anymore, and grew very depressed and would get angry and worked up over the slightest thing. I have always been a relaxed and happy person, but this pill at the worst times made me feel suicidal and totally annoyed with everyone around me. It also made me a lot more paranoid... I started to worry much more about little things and the way i was perceived by other people.
There has also been some speculation by dermotologists as to whether this pill might have contributed to mild localized vulvodynia, which i have now just about managed to cure... and then there were the more common side-effects such as sore breasts and constantly feeling as if I was on my period, having an isatiable appetite...
Although my skin cleared up a great deal whilst taking dianette, I truly do not think it is worth the trouble it has caused me. The problem is, now my acne has returned, and i'm not sure what other options there are, and whether they will be successful.
I would seriously urge people to think very carefully before taking this pill though, as it can seriously affect every aspect of your life.

I too have been much moodier on Dianette, but I think you need to look at this logically. You only got hairy, spotty and had fertility problems, after the Dianette. It would make sense to me to praise Dianette for stopping the awful symptoms you would have got if you were on any other pill. Ten years is a long time, and over that ten years, you would have developed all of the sympoms you described. Dianette is a wonder drug! It didn't cause the problems, it just stopped them while you were on it. Most pills delay contraception for months or years after you stop them, but there is no evidence to say that Dianette causes miscarraige once it is stopped. It can cause damage to a baby boy, but only if you become pregnant while you are still taking it. The reason there is an association (not genuine connection) between miscarraige and Dianette, is that most women with PCOS are on Dianette at some stage, and these women are most high risk for miscarraige. The dianette does not, to my knowledge, cause it. As for the moods, well, Dianette blocks male hormones- that is why it stops the acne, hair and period trouble. Therefore, if it makes us moody, it is just making us more female!!!!!

Hi saryfairy,

I am afraid I dont have good news for you. Taking Diane 35 caused me to have chronic shedding. Its been two and a half years of shedding..and it was not easy. I have been to many doctors, had a biopsy, and there is nothing wrong, but the pill triggered a te and it could take two years to stop or 10 years, no one really knows. I have lost 60% of my hair. I always wear it in a ponytail now. Most people cant tell i lost hair, but I know because I know what my hair was. It is very depressing dealing with this on a daily basis. Is theer any other e mail address I can write you at? But dont lose hope, sometimes...it will just stop on its own and things will go back to normal. I am very mad that this happened to me. I lost my life for no reason at all.

Dianette is really an evil drug..i feel trapped on it as every time i come off it i get severe acne and when im on it i feel really depressed and was given anti-depressants..i didnt even have acne before i went on it. i was only put on it for facial hair. Now it is making me so depressed. i came off seven months ago now as i wanted a baby. my skin was fine for 3 months but then go really bad again...i am now on antibiotics instead which is just as bad...as will have to come off if i get pregnant, andthey dont really work only a slight improvment. my skin is badly scarred now on my chin. i dont even want to leave my house as so miserable. im thinking of going back on it just to help my skin, but i know it likley i wont ever have another baby. im 30 years old and a face full off hair and acne and scars...if i had known what dianette would do to me i would never have gone near it...

I wanted to know whether your acne returns as bad as it was before you started taking the pill or worse?

Also I know some women take this pill for a number of years even 13 but surely in your early 30's acne is a thing of the past, so do women experience the same symptoms as teenage acne?

Yes believe me they do I took dianette for eleven yrs due to developing bad skin as a teenager and came of it recently due to hearing about the risks. I am 29 and since coming off the diantte my skin is dreadful once again. I like you thought that it would have been a teenage thing but apparently not. Recently seen a dermatologist who informed me that symptoms of cystic Acne last until menopause.

Hi everyone, not sure if anyone has experienced the same or similar thing as me? I'm currently slowly (VERY slowly) easing myself off the dianette which I've been on for about 8 months. Has anyone developed rosacea or facial flushing whilst on this bcp? I have and this is why I'm going to cone off it asap. I told my GP about it but she just said it wasn't the pill, even though I said it only started after I'd started the dianette!!! Anybody with any similar experiences please reply! Seems to be only me who had suffered with this weird side effect!

Re: dianette feels like it has been a total horror

Postby Boofle » Sun Jul 15, 2012 8:48 am

Hi din,
I'm suffering from the same thing.. I was put on Dianette as I had too much excess androgens which were making my skin oily and my hair shed quite seriously. As i am genetically prone to this (my mum's hair has thinned
Significantly and she's in her 50s) i believe it affected me more. My dermatologist put me on Dianette, which i started but I do have quite bad acid reflux problems, this pill was making it impossible to take without having a constant sick uncomfortable feeling.
I had to come off after 6weeks as i could not tolerate it anymore. Shortly after i came off it, i got chronic shedding, my hair was coming out in thick clumps and it along with my skin getting so oily, i started then getting body hair on my stomach/face /back and my eyebrows and eyelashes started coming out. Its been 7/8 months and the shedding still goes on, it is still in large quantities and it hurts every time
I see hair falling out. I am on cilest pill now and have been for about 3months, havnt seen a big change yet.. I really havent got any hair to lose anymore. Ive lost about 70% of my hair and i too wear my hair up all the time.
What is your regimen now and have you seen anymore improvements at all? Im so scared im going to be fully bald in a few months.
It would be great to get your email address to discuss further.

I'm 26 using diane (cyproterone compound) for about 5 years now, I had no horrible side affects like some people seem to experience! I don't have any acne or hair loss like I had before taking diane .
About women who have PCOS , my doctor told me that we should keep our hormones on balance unless there's a higher chance of breast cancer , ovarian cancer and Uterine Cancer. So I think taking diane pills is certainly worth it for me . I guess, for every person it's gonna be different .
In USA Dianette is almost banned , I heard that it can cause liver cancer , cyproterone was known to be toxic to the liver in humans, especially at higher doses and with longer duration of use. it can cause fatal blood clots, or venous thromboembolism (VTE) also ! it's effect of all combined estrogen-progestin products including birth control pills.

anybody heard about these things ? I really don't know what to do beause I'm totally satisfied with diane :(

Hi,

I posted on here a good few years ago now when I was coming off Dianette.

In relation to the recent hair loss question, I shed for three months and then it stopped. My hair then grew back.

I'm now in a predicament as, having sworn NEVER to go on the pill again, I started taking Marvelon 2 1/2 years ago due to incredibly heavy periods and for contraceptive reasons. I now want to come off of it but am scared I will have a repeat of the Dianette experience!!!

I am considering taking a weaning approach where I gradually reduce the amount of pill I take every day. Fingers crossed!

Hey,

After suffering with really bad skin all through my teens and 20's my work college suggested Dianette.
She took it for skin problems too, but had wonderful skin from using the drug.
I went to my gp who prescribed it to me with no problem at all and not explaining its side effects.
I also used it as birth pill too but after spitting up with my boyfriend I thought I should come of it as I have got great skin and no longer need it as a contraception. So 3 weeks ago I stopped taking it.

This is what has happened to me since....
My skin on my face started to get little bumps underneath again it started from the top right and has spread across the whole of my forehead and is now going down the side of my face.

I now have really bad acne again!!!!

I feel so depressed about what Dianette has done to me that i'v lost all of my conference again.
I think we need to get it banned in the uk, as there have been some young girls die from dvt from using the drug. Its really not safe. I'm going to try vitamin b5 and hope it helps with my skin. As for the vain in my leg ill have to see how it goes.
