Implanon contraceptive implant-weight loss after removal

Postby kathryn234bluey » Thu Mar 30, 2006 9:59 am

Hi everybody! I wandered if anybody else has used the Implanon implant before, and lost weight after they have had it removed? I had mine put in in june last year, I am having it removed next week, and I must have gained at least 2 stone since it was put in, and I don't eat any different to what I always have. I used the mycrogynon pill on and off since I was 16, and ever since then my weight has fluctuated, after I had my two children I lost weight, went down to my pre pregnancy weight, but then started using the pill again and it shot up. I tried a diet at new year, I did really well, but didn't lose a single pound, and I think the implant is counter-acting any weight loss- I am trying to lose it but the implant isn't letting me. Also has anyone had it removed then tried for a baby, how long did it take to fall pregnant? When I use the mycrogynon pill in the past, I fell pregnant pretty much straight away with my second child. Any replies much appreciated!

I know how you feel!!!!

Postby Guest » Tue Apr 18, 2006 11:19 am

Over the past three years I have fell deeper and deeper into depression due to my weight. I went on the minipill when I was 15 which didn't effect my weight but I have real trouble swollowing pills. this resulted in me getting pregnant at 16. After much thought I had a termination and was told my only contraceptive option was the "injection". Each injection lasts three months and I had two of these and in 6 months I put on over three stones!

With such a drastic weight gain I was told to give the new implant a try, which I did and now no matter what I do i cant shift any of the weight that I have gained.

My emotions are now all over the place and I find myself crying if we run out of washing powder!!!

Do you find your hormones are varied with the implant?

I have had the implant removed now, so I am just waiting to see how my weight goes, but when I had it in, my moods changed all the time, my youngest was 2 in January, and apparently you can get postnatal depression as late as that after a baby, and I really though I had it until someone pointed out that it could be the implant, somedays I just felt so sad, I was really miserable in my job (which I have now left), some nights I just cried myself to sleep for no reason at all, there wasn't anything that I was thinking about to set me off, and I always felt like I was in a bad mood and taking it out on other people, I do feel a little better since having it removed but I suppose it takes a while to get back to normal, when I had it removed the doctor said it can take up to a few months to get totally back to normal.

Hiya,
i had my implant in two days after my 17th birthday in 2004, they told me i had to be on my period, but i wanted it as soon as i herd about it, so we booked a date when i estimated when i would start my period.

The day that i went to have it i wasnt on my period so i lied and said i was anyway! Since then i have a period every 3 weeks, and it lasts for 3 weeks, and there VERY heavy! Does any one know if thats because i wasnt on my period when i had my implant??

It doesnt realy bother me as much as it does my fiance!

hi there just interested in reading your views and experiences with using implanon.... i had mine fitted little under 2 yrs ago and had it removed almost a week ago. i have gained 3 stone since having in put in, despite being on almost constant ,different diets ,mood swings from hell and suffering very ,very heavy periods that usually lasted three to six weeks , two weeks off and started again :( , we hope to try for a baby , and i have no idea how long it takes to come out of your system , or to lose the excess weight.....

Your system (menstrual cycle and ability to conceive etc) should return to normal within six days of having the implant removed... "normal" does, of course, depend on your age and weight...

Hi,
I just had my implanon removed 4 days ago (with the bruise and cut to show for it!) I had a terrible time on implanon to the point that my husband went and had a versectomy 4 weeks ago. i just cant wait for the side effects to wear off. I had terrible acne and periods that lasted around 6 weeks on and off. i did too gain weight but i think that was my own fault (chocoholic and not seeing a gym for 12 months doesnt help)
as for not getting the implanon while you are bleeding, there is a realy good reason for that which your doctor should have told you about. they do it like that to make sure that you are not fertile at the time of the insertion. the fact that you have had periods means you are actually safe, i wasnt so lucky. due to a very unpredictable cycle i had my implanon inserted without my period (but 6 weeks after my last one), 5 weeks later i felt strange, luckily enough i have 3 kids and had a fair idea i was pregnant, turns out i was right. the most terrible experience of my life as i had 3 kids under 5 (including a 6 month old) so i decided to terminate the pregnancy. i am so glad that my days of all this worry is over!!!

Has anyone had trouble trying to get the implant removed?

My friend had one put in (under pressure) when she had a termination and now the doctor has refused to take it out until she can show evidence of taking another contraceptive (but not condoms).

She has put on loads of weight and it makes her feel nauseous but the Doctor has refused to treat her full stop now.

Implanon removal

Postby shellk » Wed May 17, 2006 2:36 pm

Hi, i had my implanon removed 5 weeks ago while i was at the end of my period! I haven't had a period yet, but my partner and i have used condoms, so i shouldn't be pregnant. I bled loads when i had it in, so could it just be that my body is taking a while to get back to normal? I cant wait 4 my period as the doc has put me on the pill, and i need to wait til the 1st day of bleeding before i can take it. Any1 else had to wait ages 4 a period after implanon removal??? Please reply and put my mind at rest (can't bring myself to do a preg test!!!)

Implanon

Postby Whitby » Wed May 17, 2006 2:44 pm

Hi, i am just about to have my old implant removed and a new one inserted. i have had no trouble at all with the implant, and dont have any periods at all (fantastic). my weight has always stayed about the same, i even lost quite abit about a year and a half ago due to stress, so i dont think the implant has affected me in any way at all. i think it is great !

were you also using condoms before you had it removed? did you have unprotected sex beforehand? apparantly you are supposed to use protection for a week before you have it removed because sperm can still live inside the body.Unless you have symtpons telling you so though I dont think you could be pregant, I had my implant removed on the 4th april and have had 2 periods since then, I think it just depends on your body.

implanon

Postby Guest » Mon May 22, 2006 8:30 pm

hi
ive booked myself to see the doctor this friday. ive had the implant for just over 2 years now and the periods are rediculous. once in a blue moon i can go 2 months without a period, but then again i can have a period for 3 weeks and then a week off, then back on again! im really tired all the time and my pharmasit said i could be becoming anemic, this isnt good news as i am a blood donar. so i need to get it taken out now so i can get on with life and get giving blood to save lives again! i havent had any problems with the weight, a little acne but thats all. all in all it was good, but my periods didnt agree unfortunately. good luck if your getting one, it may not give u any side affects.

Implanon out, weight off

Postby Yvette » Mon May 29, 2006 5:23 am

I had my implanon out 2 weeks ago, and have lost 7 kilos since then. I had it in for over a year and it kept my post baby weight on plus 10 kilos. So I've had it out just to lose the weight. Problem is, my libido has come back a little, so we have to use condoms. They are such a passion killer.

I'm about to have my implant out on the 13th of June, and am really hoping that I will lose some of the weight that I have gained since having it in. It was put in October 2004 and I weighed 8.2 stone, now I weigh 12.3 stone so i've gained over 4 stone. I've become extremely depressed and also very self-conscious, I don't even like to go out on my own any more... I am so fed up now that I can't wait to have it out... Also did any one have real trouble having it out due to the weight gain?

It really helps reading your comments.
