Were you a tomboy?

Postby Jennifer B on Thu Jan 04, 2007 5:08 pm

When I was little I would certainly classify myself as being a tomboy. I remember fighting with my mom when she put me in frilly dresses for birthdays and other occasions. It was more fun to play with my brothers when they built tree forts but some of their friends didn't want girls in them. In a way I suppose I rebelled....at least until I started playing with makeup.

All four girls in my family were tomboys - it cam as a bit of a shock when we got a real brother and found out that there were differences (no not that bit) but we camped and cycled and wrestled and played outdoors and generally raised hell right up to the time I started secondary school, then my older sister went all goody-goody and we had to all behave!

My older sister did that, that's why my mum now has favouritism since her eldest is "perfect", but i'm unlikely to convert, then NYE I tell her I'm gay and thats one daughter out of the window

What can I do, I've been honest and just been rejected.

It's made me really ill, but then I don't think up-coming exams are helping with my stress levels.

As I like to say-- I have never been able to be classified. I was the little girl in the dress and wearing bows in her hair-- and the next day out playing sports. :P

I was a bit of a tomboy. I have 3 brothers who liked slot car racing. I took to it as well. I learned how to build and paint my own slot car, and raced my car on the track after school and on weekends.

I guess I was a little but it was because boy get more interesting prezzies!
Girls get dolls.
Boys get lego's and mechano and hands-on puzzles.
My mind needed stimulation and I get that from logic.
Dolls don't offer logic and I hated get them as presents.

Plus, I would rather be risking death climbing trees and jumping bikes over home made ramps any day to the kiddie politics underneath the monkey bars!

I didn't mix with girls, but wasn't amazing with the boys either. They just had more interesting hobbies.

Oh, yes - climbed trees, went shooting with my dad, asked for a work bench and set of carpentry tools, just before high school and got them and was shown how to use them by my dad.

I think I was lucky, in that my parents didn't seem to define gender lines, for me and my brother to stay within. We are both well adjusted adults consequently, now with kids of our own and I notice that we don't set gender boundaries either.
did your hand just brush against me, accidently...?

(Hello all - I'm new, pls be gentle )

Being a tomboy ruled at school. Playing footie with the boys over a wussy game of hopscotch rocked!

Only memory of playing with a doll was cutting my sister's doll's hair into a spiky short back and sides ! She's never forgiven me...

Ha ha ha that is a classic!! nice one!

I too hated dolls, more of a mechano, lego and sticklebricks girl! Actually I still love that stuff now, just need an excuse (under the age of 10) to cover my back!
