I'm sure... I downloaded the W98se updater.. along with all the Net downloads I normally use in a W98se system reload...

Everything loaded properly, except the unofficial W98se updater, and EasyCleaner...

Updater got stopped right away with the pop up... I had to download it from the W98se machine... Too bad the CD doesn't work...

EasyCleaner installed, but crashed on the first click, when selecting English... EC's writer is looking into it... He recommends his "EC Beta 2.1"...

Yes, take your pc & your penis to a computer technician and if he/she can not help go see a doctor.

Please this is not a topic to spam I've just opened this topic to help FF members with their computer & technical issues.

Thankyou,

Lol - cos there wasn't a whole section of the forum called "computer problem solver" to do that already....

Just what is needed - Nice one noobie.

Here's a silly little one...

I just finished up loading a 20-gig hd with W98se, and added the three unofficial updater packs, and now when it boots I get this pop up "inf file can't be found"... It happens after I've I installed the "W9xPPv4" package...

Maybe it can't find the inf file :)

I visited a certain website.. and when I signed out, and clicked everything off, to get back to just the desktop, I find all my custom placed icons are reset on the desktop, as if the display switch that sets the desktop to "view as webage" was set.. when I never touched it, and a check hows it's not set to view as webpage...

Does this mean that some one was messing in my hd when I was in that website?..

It might do - I don't remember the registry key offhand but if you go to sysinternals.com (which will redirect you to their part of the microsoft websie) and get the tool "regmon", you'll be able to record a log to toggle the active desktop display, from there you can find out what keys are actually changed (for real rather than from some website which may or may not be correct). From there you can set a watch on that key - if it gets changed then it'll show you which process did it and when (so you should be able to tie it up with what you were doing at the time).

There you go - a serious answer for you.

I think this classes as a "problem"...

I just got me a tower at a garage sale... It had XP on it, but I don't like XP, so I formated it out.. and tried the W2k CD from a garage sale, but it doesn't boot.. so I'm back to this GD W98se thht again, still...

I loaded the garage sale tower with 98se, but it seems the tower is full of 5-year old top end components, which need special drivers... oh s***! and oops!.. big oops...

Now the video is stuck at 250-colors, and I can't change the screen size...

Plus the thing has a hundred-meg zip in it, but there's 61kb's I can't delete from the zippy..? And Spybot S&D found lots, plus a key-counter, and deleted it all.. but all but the key-counter came back, whi ch Spybot found again after a reboot... What are those "alexa's" and those "exe's, and all that crap that Spybot finds in an XP OS..?

I messed with the XP system till I destroyed it... It's a good practice to get yourself a garage sale PC, with XP on it, to try things out, in learning what can't be done to an OS, in meticulously destroying a computer just fer the hell of it...

I installed my old hd from the Compaq desktop, into the new tower, which runs 80-gigs /1 gig ram... The new tower made a lot of changes in the old hd... and when I put the old hd back into the old tower it took four reboots to get things normalized... I think the shifts made the old hd in the old tower run better... Is there a system in which one can do this switcheroo the hd's thing, and get almost high-end quality in a junker PC..?
