It was a night filled with glamour, glitter and of course magical music. Musicians and pop stars from all over India attended the star studded event including Bollywood stars. With full on shimmering Bollywood style performances from actors such as Salam Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, the night was a big hit.

On the red carpet the stars were buzzing with excitement and overjoyed that finally there is an awards ceremony dedicated to purely musical talent.

Singer Adnan Sami who was looking fabulously fit after his weight loss said: “My congratulations to GIMA (Global Indian Music Awards) I hope that it becomes an annual affair with a tremendous amount of success.”

Actor Anil Kapoor who was also is British movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ described the event as a phenomenal platform for all the talented artists and said: “This should be encouraged that’s the reason I’m here and I hope this also becomes as big as IIFA.”

Singer Alka Yagnik said: “It’s a great feeling that there is an award show dedicated to just music, it was very much needed and should have happened a long time ago but better late than never. Film and non-film music artists will finally get the credit they deserve.”

Bollywood’s all time hunk Salam Khan said: “Music is an integral part of our film industry and without music our films may not be as successful.”

This is also the first time that the people behind the music are getting recognised for the talent.

Legendary singer Asha Bhosle said: “I want all the singers, the music directors, the writers, the programmers, all the people behind the screens to get awards.”

Her older sister veteran Lata Mangeshker was awarded the lifetime achievement award given to her by Asha. The popular singer has also been featured in the Guinness Book of World Records 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world.

Singer Anup Dev won the award for Best Lyricist for song ‘Swaand Kirkire’ in movie ‘Rajkumar.’ The movie also won Most Popular Song and Best Film Album.

The big winner of the night was the movie ‘3 Idiots’ which has already bagged many awards at the International Indian Film Academy ceremony such as Best Film and Best Director. This time it stole the show yet again but for its music. Winning a whopping 5 awards.

This stunning event left the artists in happy spirits as they left and after the superb success of the night it looks like it will be back next year!
