Bollywood stars give a helping hand

Veteran actor A.K Hangal is in a financial crisis. After the death of his wife the professional tailor-turned actor lives with his son Vijay in a ground floor flat in Saraswati apartments, Santacruz East. 75-year-old Vijay is a former Bollywood still photographer who had to give up his work due to a severe back ailment.

95-year-old Hangal suffers from kindney and age related problems and both father and son are unable to afford their mounting medical bills which are over RS. 15,000. The situation has come to a point where they have to choose between spending money on food or medication.

But now that the rest of B-Town have heard of his condition they are pulling together to help the actor. Jaya Bachchan who has worked with him in five films said that she would take care of all his medical expences. Her husband Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog: “It has been sad and unnerving to learn today of the dire condition of one of our most devoted and dedicated character artists of the industry, Mr A.K. Hangal. I have now initiated my office, sitting some distance, to render immediate support and help. As individuals, as fraternity, as humans, that is the least we can do.”

Actor Mithun Chakraborty who is also the founder president of the Cine Artistes Welfare Trusta, said on OneIndia Entertainment that he would ask the association to release a fund for the actor. "We got a call from Hangal saab's son Vijay a few days ago and the committee was scheduled to discuss his case on January 22. We will be sending a cheque of RS. 50,000 or even more to him by Friday.”

Actosr Aamir Khan and Salmaan Khan have also said they will do anything they can to help Hangal.
