The Haiku Is a Japanese verse written in 17 syllables, divided between two lines of 5 syllables and one line of 7, in the middle. Here are my examples below, try it out, it takes a bit of thinking about once you have picked your subject, so I have picked something I like, something I don’t like and things I have seen in my bedroom. Have a go!

My Favourite Things About Us
Kissing, eyes closed tight,
Your smell when we wake early,
Snuggling up at night.
The Barrister
Suited and Booted,
Bragging, nagging, nose held high,
No better than me.
Bedroom Haiku
Fleece white dressing gown,
hung on the back of my door.
Guardian Angel.
White paper lantern.
The sun in the universe
of my darkened room.
Family photo.
A small television screen
on pause forever.
The books on the shelf.
Layered side by side, upright,
paper lasagne.
Beige wicker basket.
Upturned hollow sandcastle
on hot summer’s days.
