  1. As well as my full-time writing job, I'm also an actress on a soap opera here in Ireland, called Fair City. Not the most likeable character I have to admit; I describe the role I play as 'the horrible old cow that you love to hate.' My character, Nicola, has had more break-ups and philandering than I've had hot dinners and I think the nicest thing that can happen to me is when people stop me in the aisle at Tesco's and say, 'you're absolutely nothing like your character in real life!'
  2. I'm single. And at the hour of life now where I'm absolutely fine with it, thanks very much. Every so often I'll be asked, 'do you feel lonely?' Or 'do you wish you were in a relationship?' Yes, that would be lovely, but only if it was with the right guy. And I've dated so many Mr. Wrongs by now, that I've come to realise life alone is actually pretty fabulous really. Honestly.
  3. I'm a carer for my parents who are both elderly and at the time of life where they just need a bit of extra help. It takes up a lot of time, but I'm just so honoured to do it. There's not a year goes past that I don't stand at the graveside of the parent of one of my friends and every time, all I can think is, 'please don't let it be me next.' I know how lucky I am to have both Mum and Dad still with me and I really do think of them as the greatest gift in my life. By far.
  4. In my spare time, I'm a walker. I walk everywhere. It's something about the fresh air that really gets the creative juices going. I've had most of my book ideas while out for a stroll.
  5. I also love the theatre and try to go at least once a week.
  6. Re above answer; I'm actually in rehearsal for a play right now, which is touring around Dublin from October to December. It's a comedy and a joy to play. Written by a great pal called Isobel Mahon.
  7. I also volunteer as a 'foster angel' for the DSPCA and regularly foster little cats that need a bit of TLC. The trouble is I fall in love with them all and am in danger of ending up being Mad Single Cat Lady.
  8. I have two passions in life. Please don't laugh but the first is a jar of Nutella and a box set on Netflx. Bliss. I'm working my way through Fargo at the moment - no plot spoilers please!
  9. I also love to travel and will hop on a flight any chance I get. My poor publishers must be well sick of me saying, 'no really, I'll come to London! It's no trouble - honestly!'
  10. I have - ahem - actually done a few flying lessons. And loved them. Once you get over the fact that you're in a tiny little tin can with an engine the approximate size of a lawnmower at one thousand feet, you're up and away!

All She Ever Wished For is out now.
