Riches

Riches

Una-Mary Parker’s books have just been added in e-book format so we take the opportunity to ask her about them, starting with the release of Riches, Scandals, Temptations, Enticements and The Palace Affair.

What can you tell us about the books that have just been made into e-books?

Glamour, passion, page turning suspense, women in jeopardy who get themselves 'out of it'.

How much has your background in journalism helped you to write fiction?

Enormously. It gave me a professional approach and discipline, the ability to work to deadline, and I met interesting people and went to places and into situations that I wouldn't have otherwise visited.

How much has your time as an editor helped you to scrutinize you own work?

I don't think it has particularly. I am a perfectionist.

When did you realise you had a gift for writing?

When I was aged 6 I wrote my first story: The tragedy of Laura. And then I never stopped!

Why did you decide to go into journalism rather than fiction writing right away?

I went into full time journalism when I was 22. I felt I was too young then to know about life, so not ready. My 30's and 40's were so packed that I didn't start my first book till my mid-50's and now it's all-consuming (apart from my busy family life)!

Please tell us about your time at Tatler magazine

Busy, fun times where work mainly started at 6.00pm, covering up to 5 parties a night! I was doing all the daytime social events, such as Royal Ascot, anyway. I worked at Tatler for 10 years.

What is your writing process?

I work from 2.00pm to about 6.00 or 7.00 every day in my study.

What is next for you?

I’m working on 3 books concurrently. The sequel to Riches, the sequel to The Fairbairn Girls and an illustrated book by Toffee!!
