As a seeker of lasting contentment, you're in good company with the Buddha and the Indian Sage Patanjali, who complied 196 aphorisms or Yoga Sutras taught worldwide.

Take charge of your mind

Give inner peace a chance. Let go of your addiction to drama

Don't indulge in negative conversations. Resolve to experience contentment.

Quieten your mischievous mind monkeys, one breath at a time

Sift the negative thoughts, feelings and attitudes that cause chaos. Just as monkeys swing about from tree to tree, deafening the jungle with piercing screeching, so your unruly thoughts and feelings, aka mind monkeys, play havoc with your mind and emotions. Breath has the power to calm your mind, quickly. Do yoga and learn to breathe correctly.

Quit comparing

Comparing yourself to others is a mug's game that kills contentment. Develop the mental muscle to stop indulging in comparisons. Trust your own life's journey. Another's paradise might be your Alcatraz. Make your life the best you possibly can.

Invite a fabulous future by making peace with your past

The following are healers. They're also miraculous anti-ageing silver bullets.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger

The self-belief and confidence that develop from triumphing over life's adversities, walking through the fire of life, are the bounty of the soul to enjoy for eternity.

Acceptance holds the key

Own your feelings, no matter how painful. Accept yourself, others and your circumstances, just as they are and are not. " He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have. " - Socrates. When you're defending or justifying, you're fighting the flow of life. You don't have to accept what doesn't work in your life but when you do, the calm and peace you feel opens the door to a future unencumbered by your past.

Forgive often

I love this Sufi saying about forgiveness, " It ' s the fragrance that flowers give when they are crushed. " Bitterness builds from holding onto resentment, disappointment, anger, rejection, etc. It acts as a nasty poison in your emotional system. It ages you. Forgive others. Forgive yourself. Learn and move on with a smile.

One drop of kindness heals the deepest wound

It's much easier to judge or lash out but this rarely brings about a positive result. Kindness soothes and paves the way for compassion.

Give appreciation. Do good for good

There's great contentment in serving others. One selfless act done with heart fulfils you more than hundreds with obligation. Get into appreciation mode. This mobilises your forcefield faster than anything else and gets you into being receptive. When you give more and expect less, the magnanimous universe rewards you manifold.

Make best friends with your inner Self

Flow with uncertainty. Have an unshakable belief in life

Life throws curve balls and fear of the unknown paralyses people. Embrace adversity. Listen to your wise voice within and trust it to help you deal gracefully with whatever comes your way. Your relationship with your inner being is the most precious gift you'll give yourself. The Sanskrit word shraddha loosely translates to 'faith' but means much more. It's a heartfelt belief, potent with optimism that life is always working for you. Reset your mind to this as default position and feel your sense of peace increase.

Connect to your inner Self. Often

As you listen to your inner guidance system, you find yourself in the right place, at the right time, in the right way. It holds the silent seeds of contentment and all you could possibly desire.
