1. Always the Bridesmaid was never meant to be a book about weddings, it's the story of a girl whose two best friends are getting divorced and married at the same time so there's equally wedding and break-up actions. I'm an equal opportunities writer.

2. Brides are amazing. Having watched many of my friends plan their weddings, I'm in total awe that they're able to pull of these epic, professional level events on top of their every day lives. That said, I thought it might be more fun to look at things from the bridesmaid's perspective and focus on her observations. I'm sure we've all known one or two bridezillas in our times and clearly there are some stories to be told.

3. Having a good sense of humour is a prerequisite for a bridesmaid. If you can't laugh, you'd probably better give your dress back and I wanted this book to be funny!

4. Even though Maddie is asked to be a bridesmaid in the book, the title refers more to her position in her own life, always coming in second. She's the middle child at home, the perennial assistant at work, ex left her for his future wife and even her friends can sometimes take her for granted, hence 'Always the bridesmaid'.

5. If we've learned nothing else from 27 Dresses and Bridesmaids, we have at least learned that bridesmaids are singularly awesome creatures and deserve more stories in the world. I am following a great tradition here, people.

6. I think the book could have been written from the perspective of any one of the characters - Lauren the bride, Sarah the other bridesmaid, Will or Tom. Even Shona or Sharaline would have an interesting take on the events! And I'd love to read it from the point of view of the man who runs Maddie's local off-licence, he would definitely have an opinion.

7. I had too many amazing bridesmaid stories to work in to the book…

8. It leaves me open for a kick ass sequel (Joking. Not joking. Joking? Not sure).

9. If I'd written about a bride, the pull of showing up to signings in a Vera Wang wedding gown would have been to strong.

10. Always the Bridesmaid isn't just about brides and bridesmaids, it's about friendship and vocation and passion and life as well as weddings, divorces and relationships in all their many forms.
