In Lust Emergency there’s lots of hot doctor love! In this installment of the Uniform Encounters series, there’s a young paramedic and older ER doctor who try to figure out if things can really work out between them. Attraction is one thing – but is there enough to form a relationship? After all, the young stud likes to hang out at Sinsation, a gay sex club – and the movie-star handsome older Doc likes to stay at home with his cat, Mr Nibbles.

You love the outdoors, so where is your favourite outdoorsy place to be?

Just like Bilbo – I love the mountains. I prefer to avoid the ones with orcs, dragons and trolls, but I guess you can’t get too picky.

What is your favourite film?

Ummm…Lord of the Rings. I betcha didn’t see that one comin’! *wink*

Who do you most like to listen to?

At this exact moment, I’m listening to Elbow. Last night it was Nine Inch Nails. Other times it might be Bat For Lashes, Daft Punk, or Howard Shore (am I becoming too predictable?)

You used to be a singer in a band so what can you tell us about this time in your life?

There are several books in the works about that *snort* Wow. It was fifteen years of madness. Some of it was exciting, some not so much. I was performing on the Sunset Strip during the post eighties, alternative rock/grunge era. The chaos and demands of performing became too much for me. It’s safer behind the keyboard…

You visited England and Scotland a lot as a child, so tell us about this experience.

I loved it. It’s amazing how much of an impact it had on me, and how clearly I remember details of the trip. I became obsessed with British history. I once embarrassed my American History teacher in high school when I corrected him. He had Bloody Mary and Mary Queen of Scots confused, and after I pointed out that they were two very different people, he said, “Well, that’s enough about British history for one day…” You see what you guys are dealing with here?!?! Oh – and I got to wave to the Queen when she was on her way to church – yay!

What is the appeal of hiking and beach-combing for you in the Pacific Northwest?

It’s very different from where I grew up – I’m from Los Angeles originally. L.A is a glorified desert, and up here it’s damp, foggy and green. There are tons of trees (when they’re not being blown over in the big windstorms we have on the coast). I live in the area where The Goonies and the beach sequences from Twilight were filmed. I’ve always thrived creatively in nature, and here I can have the best of everything. Beach, forest, and the nearby Cascade Mountains. The volcanoes only explode occasionally.

What is your writing process?

I write a synopsis with my main characters. Then I go completely off the rails, and everything really develops once the headphones are on and I get into my ‘zone’. My characters have to be the drivers, so if they disagree on a plot point from the synopsis, I always lose. Sometimes they have more of a story to tell. That’s been the case for my new series, Gin & Jazz. What was originally supposed to be a 3 book novel length serialisation, has turned into a 4 book super novel series, with 3 extra novel of side character’s stories. Sleep deprivation and loud electronica music also do wonders for me.

What is next for you?

The aforementioned Gin & Jazz series. It’s set in 1920’s Hollywood during the silent film era. It begins with the story of Jack and Nick, and their quest for fame and fortune. The allure of the celluloid kingdom threatens their newfound love, and the suave screen idol, Roman Pasquale, swoops in to steal Jack from Nick. It’s very much a Team Nick/Team Roman situation. I did an unbelievable amount of research for this one, and loved every minute of it. It was such a specific snapshot in history where for a brief moment, some people shed all of their inhibitions, and led their lives in an openly decadent way. It was all about the Gin & Jazz, man.
