Passion in the Sky

Passion in the Sky

Passion in the Sky is the first story in the Diary of a Free Woman series. The protagonist, Gwenevere, is a 44 year old woman who is divorced and her two daughters are adults in college. Gwen has accumulated a large amount of vacation time and rainy day funds. She decides to fulfill a dream and travel to several places in Europe. As she's boarding a plane, an accident happens and she meets a sexy billionaire who happens to be stuck on her flight. After the plane lifts off, the they exchange playful messages. The foreplay with words reaches a point where Gwen gets the opportunity to join the mile high club. Should she join?

It's a sexy and fun read. I enjoyed writing it.

This is book one in the Diary of a Free Woman’s series, so can you tell us anything about the next instalment?

The next story is Passion Blooms in Paris and is set for pre-release in December. Gwen is in Paris and she meets a famous French actor at the Louvre. His sexy accent and heated words have an effect on Gwen as he escorts her through the Louvre. Although she admires centuries-old artwork, she would rather spend time with the charming Frenchman who has taken a keen interest in her.

Why do you have such a passion for the paranormal, sci fi and fantasy genres?

I grew up watching science fiction horror shows. I owe my interest to my mother. When I was young, we would watch old Star Trek episodes together. Vampire movies were my favourite. I recall watching The Hunger and David Bowie. Loved it. My mom took me to see Blade Runner on the big screen in the early 1980's and I wanted to see more movies like it. There are many shows/movies that have helped expand my imagination. I found science fiction and fantasy creative and different. Anything is possible.

How difficult is it for writers to come up with something new for the vampire werewolf genre?

The market seems flooded with vampire and werewolf stories, which does make it difficult but not impossible to create something new. To stand out, a writer needs to have a really good story with relatable characters. Again, not impossible. For me, I took a break writing in the paranormal genre because I wanted to try something different. I like to challenge myself. I'd never written anything in contemporary or a ménage a trois. So I wrote Destined For Love (Total-E-Bound publication). It is a bit of a fantasy with two smoking hot genies, but it's contemporary too. It was my first ménage story. Not long after I wrote it, I started writing regular contemporary. Will I go back to paranormal one day? Maybe. If a vampire or werewolf knocks at my door, then yes, I will certainly go back to the genre.

Did you visit all of the places featured in the story?

Unfortunately, I have not visited any places in the story or any of the stories in the series. I had to do some research and contacted a few people for help. Do I want to visit places mentioned in my stories? I'd love to! Maybe one day I'll get the chance to walk in my protagonist's shoes.

What is your writing process?

I generally come up with a basic plot for a story and make up the details as I write. Creating the characters comes next or at the same time. If I'm writing a series, I jot down the plot for each one as a reminder to myself. I don't plot every chapter. I like to keep an open mind and let the cards fall where they may. The goal is to make the story plot clear and reachable. What happens in the chapters is made up to move me toward my end goal. Like most writers, I tend to visualize scenes as if I'm watching it on a television. I add emotion and progress towards my happily ever after.

Who are your favourite reads?

Any books from Kelley Armstrong, Kerrelyn Sparks, Lynsay Sands, Kim Harrison... I have many favourites.

Where did your inspiration come from for the story?

I'd planned to travel to Paris with my daughter. Our plans changed and we didn't get to go, but at the time I'd envisioned a woman encountering different sexual experiences while she travelled. Since she was a working mom the majority of her life and her main priority was to take care of her two daughters, she didn't explore opportunities with men, or women. Now that she is free and has the means to travel, she wants to take full advantage of what life has to offer. My background is somewhat similar to Gwen's. If I were given the chances she gets, I would take them.

What is next for you?

I'm working on finishing the Diary of a Free Woman series. My goal is to finish writing the last story no later than the end of October. I'm going to take a break for a while, then I have an idea for another contemporary series using my protagonist.
