Becoming Sir is the third part of my romantic BDSM m/m series Calling the Shots. The series tell the story from the point of view of Isaac, a slightly conservative office worker, who’s in a committed relationship with a much younger aspiring writer, Tom. It all starts with what they intend to be a weekend of uncomplicated, be it slightly kinky, fun. Tom asks Isaac to take control. At first Isaac agrees because he wants to make his lover happy. Soon he has to admit that he’s curious enough to take things even a step further and experiment more seriously with D/s. In the second part, The Right Direction, the story continues with Isaac and Tom experimenting even further with what they do and don’t like, and how they feel about that. The title of the third part might be a good indication of how far Isaac has come in his (psychological and physical) journey to become the Dominant he feels his beloved submissive Tommy deserves. It’s as much a story about a man wanting to protect the integrity of his relationship with his partner as about kinky sex.

You have done many jobs in the past so how much have these influenced your stories?

It must have, but I’m not sure how exactly, because to me it’s such a subtle process between what happens during the experience and the way it all ends up in a story. But I do know I very seldom if ever use anything I’ve heard or seen, or any people I know, in a direct way in my stories. Everything goes through the filter of my imagination first.

Why are you attracted towards m/m erotica?

The distance between me and men-as-men plays a big role. As a lesbian who has been in a relationship with the same woman for 32 years, I’ve never felt any sexual attraction to men. I had a for the most part good relationship with my sadly deceased father, a warm bond with my brother, love both my sons to bits and have male friends, but that’s as far as it goes. I enjoy taking this imaginary walk in a world where I’m pretty much a total stranger. A world that I never want to visit in reality.

You are still open minded to m/f ad f/f erotica in the future so have you had any ideas for these?

Absolutely! I published my first m/f (or perhaps I should say m/f/m) erotic story, The Art of Pleasure, under the name Ella Laurance, with Totally Bound.

You bought a typewriter with your money earned on your first summer job, so tell us about some of your stories produced on this!

Ah, my Olivetti Dora. I’m afraid those were mostly stories to learn the trade, to find my voice. All fondly remembered, but for other reasons than being actually well written stories. I don’t think writing will ever be that innocent again.

What is your writing process now?

Well, there’s tea, and trying to explain to any of our four cats that this human needs to work and that they really can’t sit on the keyboard. They never seem to get the message, however… Since I publish using three pennames, I have to decide which one wants or needs work done the most. Whether it’s by S.Dora or Ella Laurance or R.A. Padmos, there are always stories to be told.

Who are your favourite reads in the genre?

To be honest, I don’t read very much in the genre, though I’m aware of what’s happening around me and enjoyed what I’ve read for the most part. I prefer reading non-fiction.

What is next for you?

Which one of me? S.Dora thinks there might be more to tell about Isaac and Tom, but there are also a few other stories patiently waiting on the back-burner.

Ella Laurance just finished a couple of short stories about economically independent women who know what they want (sexuality) from a man and aren’t afraid to ask for it. I consider the Wanton Women at Work series a bit of unapologetic fun. The first one, Alison does overtime, will be available soon. And Ella’s also busy with a novel for Totally Bound, and that’s all I’m going to say about that at this moment.

And as for R.A. Padmos, she does the stories of a more serious nature. After Ravages (about the consequences of homophobic violence)  and Unspoken (about being homosexual and married in a Dutch town between 1935 and 1945) her third novel will be about a gay man who falls in love with another man in the Summer of 1967, when male homosexuality became legal (be it with severe restrictions) in England.
