He might be good friends with Brad Pitt, but George Clooney appeared stunned to learn his pal was getting divorced when quizzed on camera.

The 'Monuments Men' star seemed taken aback when asked about his 'Ocean's Eleven' co-star's marriage split from Angelina Jolie during an interview with CNN.

Asked for his thoughts on the news about the couple while at a United Nations roundtable discussion on the refugee crisis, he said: "What happened?"

After reporter Richard Roth explained Angelina had filed for divorce, he admitted: "I didn't know that. Wow. I feel very sorry then."

And George - who is married to human rights lawyer Amal Clooney - thinks the "sad story" is particularly tough because of the consequences for the former couple's six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and eight-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

He continued: "That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family."

The shocked star added: "I feel very sorry to hear that. That's the first I've heard of it."
