Taylor Swift has had a lot of shade thrown at her in 2016.

After splitting from Calvin Harris in June less than a month later she hooked up with her new beau Tom Hiddlestone and people dubbed their Fourth of July party PDAs a 'showmance'.

And since Taylor, 26, is not one to miss a good opportunity for some publicity, it's surprising that she has decided to steer-clear of the MTV VMAs on Sunday (28.08.16). But the singer isn't nominated for an award - despite her video for 'Wildest Dreams' and 'Out of the Woods' being eligible.

But bumping into her ex-Calvin is more than likely as he is nominated for a Best Collaboration award for his hit 'This Is What You Came For' feat Rihanna - despite Taylor secretly recording her vocals on the track, which she wrote under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg, things are still frosty between the pair. Calvin publicly called Taylor out for spilling the beans on her song writing secret. In a series of Twitter rants he wrote: "I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy (Perry) ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it."

Acknowledging his ex's former feud with Katy Perry, was telling in itself - and with Katy set to open this year's VMAs, it signals yet another awkward award ceremony run-in Taylor could do without.

But to make matters worse for Taylor, the on-going feud with rapper Kanye West, who is also performing at the VMAs at Madison Square Garden in New York having been nominated for two awards, hit an all-time high in July when his wife Kim Kardashian West released a recording of a telephone conversation between Kanye and Taylor. It supported claims that she approved the song 'Famous' which contains the lyrics about her "For all my Southside niggas that know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous (God damn) / I made that bitch famous".

Their fall-out goes way back after Kanye infamously stormed the VMAs stage in 2009 when Taylor won Best Female Video for 'You Belong With Me' to declare Beyonce the true winner.

With more drama on offer than a soap opera it comes as no surprise that Taylor has decided to side-step the VMAs - it's probably one of her better decisions this year, so far...
