LAUNCH OF THE NEW FUSION PROGRAMME FUSION is a unique all-island initiative for Ireland, which develops and supports partnerships between industry and academia.

FUSION is a unique all-island initiative for Ireland, which develops and supports partnerships between industry and academia.

InterTradeIreland have committed a further £9.65M to the programme over the next 3 years, to support an additional 130 new partnerships.

The network enables knowledge and technology transfer across Ireland, supporting business innovation and increased capability.

FUSION develops and facilitates 3-way partnerships and projects between:

Companies - private sector businesses with technology-based development needs.

Third Level Institutes - universities, colleges, institutes of technology or research centres.

Graduates - high-calibre degree/diploma holders who have graduated within the last 5 years

Partnerships are driven by a company need. Within each 3-way partnership, partners work collectively to develop and implement a solution to a technology need within the company. Each company is partnered with a university or college with specialist expertise in the subject area required. The university or college provides one-to-one tailored assistance to solve the company's technology project. A high-calibre graduate is recruited and based in the company to champion the project. This graduate operates as the link and agent for technology transfer between the university or college and the company.

In essence, a dynamic, tri-partite arrangement is formed between the company, the university or college and the graduate, all working towards the aim of a joint business project.

InterTradeIreland will provide a support package worth up to £61,500 for a two year project. The package will support 50% of the graduate employment costs and 100% of other eligible costs including costs for ongoing academic expertise, tailored training and development for the graduate and project equipment. On top of this, ongoing co-ordination of the project is provided at no cost to the company.
