US rockers MUTE MATH are taking legal action against Warner Bros and Word Records for breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation after being marketed as a Christian act against their will.

The group were started by keyboardist PAUL MEANY, formerly of devout Christian group EARTHSUIT, and they boast a primarily church-going fanbase.

But the hitmakers feared they would be marginalised if they were seen as a religious band, and were determined to shed their former image and break into the mainstream.

Warner Bros are accused of ignoring their wishes and continuing to push their profile as blatantly Christian while promoting their eponymous debut album.

Meany says, "I had no desire to be the Christian version of a real band. We wanted total mainstream credibility.

"Warner Bros were yanking our chains. They were going to market (our album) the exact way we didn't want it."
