A 12-track masterclass in songwriting and production, it’s undoubtedly one of the albums of 2007 and features the politically punchy first single ‘Going To A Town,' available for download from April 30th with a special-edition iTunes package, May 7th.A stark, emotional, socially pertinent track of layered, richly textured sounds, it’s the first song to be taken from the eagerly anticipated album. Written and produced by Rufus, who also orchestrated the track’s luscious string section, the song also boasts Richard Thompson on electric guitar.

’Going To A Town’ will also be available as a mobile download, with exclusive access to the video by visionary director Sophie Muller.

An opulent, sophisticated LP recorded between New York, London and Berlin, ‘Release The Stars’ is a welcome return for the artist who’s widely regarded as one of the most respected and innovative performers of his generation. It also sets a benchmark in Rufus’ illustrious career, marking the first time he's produced his own album.

‘Release the Stars’ is the fifth Rufus Wainwright album. All songs are written by Rufus. Neil Tennant is the executive producer while long-time collaborators Marius de Vries and Andy Bradfield mixed the album.

“I don’t think I mince words on this album,” Rufus says. “Whether it’s America or my best friend or my lover, I’m specific about what my demands are.”
