Adele only writes songs when she is feeling suicidal. The 'Cold Shoulder' singer doubts whether she will ever pen any upbeat or cheerful material because she is always "too busy" when she's feeling happy. She said: "I haven't got time to write songs when I'm happy as I'm out having fun."It's when I'm threatening to kill myself I write. You probably won't hear a happy song from me, ever."Adele, 20, also defended herself against critics who say she is too young to be singing about heartbreak. She added to Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "If people think that I shouldn't be writing about that then they can f**k off and don't listen to my music."I think a lot of people think, 'Oh she's only 20 what does she think she's writing about?' but I bet my relationship with the boy the album is about was a lot deeper than a lot of 40-year-olds.

"People are naïve if they say that about a young person. The relationship was deep and I wanted to write about that."

Adele's debut single, 'Chasing Pavements' reached number two in the UK singles chart in January when the singer was just 19.
