Amy Winehouse's family are being offered the chance to have the inquest into her death re-investigated.

Amy Winehouse's family are being offered the chance to have a second inquest.

Coroner Dr. Andrew Reid has written to a number of families after his wife Suzanne Greenaway - who carried out the inquest into the 'Rehab' singer's death last year - was found to not be fully qualified for the position.

Despite being "confident" the inquiry was handled correctly, Dr. Reid has apologised and suggested he will re-open any cases should the families want him to.

He said: "I apologise if this matter causes distress.

"I will be writing to the families affected to personally apologise and offer for their cases to be reheard."

Suzanne quit the post a month after claiming Amy's death was caused by accidental alcohol poisoning.

She was not qualified for the position as she had not been registered as a solicitor in the UK for five years - having only worked for two-and-half.

Amy's father Mitch revealed he and his family were "shocked" to discover Suzanne was not qualified but did not believe the ruling was in any doubt.

He said: "We were very shocked when we were informed the coroner was not suitably qualified.

"It's hard to believe her credentials weren't fully checked. You'd assume this sort of thing can't happen.
