'Salt' actress Angelina Jolie admits she and her lover Brad Pitt - who she raises six children with - have made their romance a success by never spending more than three days apart.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt never spend more than three days apart.

The 'Salt' actress - who raises six children, adopted trio, Maddox, Zahara and Pax, and biological kids Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne, with Brad - insists the reason why she and the movie star hunk have made their relationship work is because they "stay really connected", spending plenty of time with their young family.

love is, Angelina admits it elevates her

She said: "There's never a period when Brad and I are pulled apart. We are not separated for more than three days, ever. We stay really connected. We actually don't go out much. It's funny. We're very homebound. We're very much Mommy and Daddy in our pajamas."

The 35-year-old beauty and Brad, 46, have been dating since 2005.

Angelina admits they have to do plenty of planning to ensure they balance their Hollywood careers with their family life.

She explained to Parade.com: "He takes the kids to school; he visits me on set with the kids. I'm home for dinner, or I'm there for breakfast. We're together all the time. We plan. Brad and I take time off between films to travel, have big experiences, do things together. That's how we work it out."

Although she struggles to define exactly what "love" is, Angelina admits it "elevates her" and makes her put the feelings of those closest to her before her own.

She added: "I feel sad for someone who has never known love. Love elevates. You know, Brad would joke about me having this conversation about love. Love? It's such a funny word. Brad can find certain phrases of poetry for it. I'm terrible at it. But I know it means wanting the best for the people you love, putting their interests above your own, always. Love does that. Love is what you live for."
