Bill Murray's booze buggy

23-08-2007 11:30

Bill Murray is facing charges of being drunk and in charge of a golf buggy.

The 'Caddyshack' star - who had been at a Swedish golf tournament - was stopped by Stockholm police when they saw the cart being driven "erratically on the pavement" through the city centre at 3.30am on Sunday (19.08.07).

Murray, 56, was asked to take a breath test because the officers believed they could smell alcohol on his person, but he refused citing American legislation.

Detective Inspector Christer Holmlund said: "He refused to blow in the instrument. So we applied the old method - a blood test. It will take 14 days before the results are in."

The comic actor was taken into custody and signed a document acknowledging he had been operating the cart under the influence.

He also agreed to let a police officer plead guilty for him should the case go to trial.

Murray - who was allowed to leave the country on Monday (20.08.07) - will be charged if tests reveal his blood level exceeded the legal limit in Sweden.
