Bob Geldof has eye problems after being bitten by a spider.

The singer-turned-charity campaigner is still suffering the effects of a nasty encounter with an angry arachnid a few years ago.

He said: "I got bitten near my left eye by a spider about two years ago when I was on a trip to Africa and now it puffs up once or twice a month."

When I was a little girl if I ever saw one I would have to have somebody kill it.

Bob is not the only star to have problems with spiders.

Eva Mendes had to have hypnotherapy to overcome her arachnophobia - an irrational fear of spiders - which started when she was a child.

The actress - who admits her fear became so bad she would not even sleep in a room if she had seen an eight-legged nasty there - said: "There was no swaying clock or anything like that - so I was disappointed by that. I do not know what she did but it really helped because now I will see one and I will be cool with it.

"When I was a little girl if I ever saw one I would have to have somebody kill it."
