Tiles from the swimming pool where late Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones drowned are being sold off. Macabre music fans can now buy individual six inch-square tiles, which were recently stripped from the pool at Cotchford Farm, in Sussex, for £130 each from a group called the Brian Jones Fan Club Cheltenham. One of the club's leading members, David Reynolds, has advertised the peculiar sale in his own publication The Spirit Magazine to give fans an "opportunity to own something so closely connected to Brain". Jones was only 27 when he was tragically found drowned by Swedish girlfriend Anna Wohlin, just three weeks after being kicked out of the band - fronted by Mick Jagger - he founded. However, news of the sale has sparked a furious row between Jones' ex-girlfriend Pat Andrews and the group. According to reports, the tiles were offered to rock memorabilia collectors with the promise that a proportion of the money would be used to erect a statue of Jones in his hometown of Cheltenham. But now Andrews, who reportedly donated the tiles for sale, says the group have withdrawn their promise of a statue instead opting to commission a bust to be displayed in the Cheltenham Arts museum without returning donations to buyers.
She said: "Mr Reynolds should turn the proceeds of the fund over to some real Brian Jones fans so they can either erect the statue we were promised, or return the money to those who donated so generously to what would have been a tourist attraction and fitting monument to Brian's memory."
