Busta Rhymes faces assault charges

Busta Rhymes has been charged with assault. The rapper was arrested by New York police on Saturday (19.08.06) for allegedly beating up a man for spitting on his car on August 12. Busta and two members of his entourage were taken into custody in connection with the incidentafter his performance at the AmsterJam Festival. The singer - real name Trevor Smith - was charged with third-degree assault and released on Sunday (20.08.06). He is due to return to court on October 24. Busta has also been charged with criminal procession of a weapon after a machete was found in his car. The star's lawyer, Scott Leemon, has defended his client and said the charge should have only merited a ticket.Leemon insists the charge is "payback by the NYPD" over Busta's refusal to cooperate with their investigations into the murder of one of his bodyguard
