Chris Martin doesn't believe he deserves success.
Despite selling millions of albums worldwide, the Coldplay frontman feels he must prove the group have earned their place at the top of the charts.
He said: "Every day I wake up and think, 'OK, today we've got to really prove ourselves. We've got to justify where we are.'
"I always feel like my dad's going to burst through my bedroom door at any moment and wake me up to go back to my real job."
Despite his self-doubt, the 'Viva La Vida' singer isn't worried about his critics because he knows not everyone will like his music.
He added: "We're like Vegemite in many respects. A lot of people like us, but many more people don't. I'd like to convince everyone that our particular brand of Vegemite is brilliant, but it's never going to happen."
These books are special to me, so if you don't like them, you can all f**k off
Even if Chris managed to win over his critics he thinks it is important for people to have their own opinions about music.
He told New Zealand's Sunday Star Times newspaper: "If everyone liked us then it wouldn't mean anything to like us. For example, I love Sherlock Holmes books. A lot of other people think they're c**p, but I'm a fan. These books are special to me, so if you don't like them, you can all f**k off."
