Christopher Lee Slams New Generation Of Stars

Veteran actor Christopher Lee has slammed today's generation of movie stars - branding them "over-hyped".

The 'Lord of the Rings' star, who has appeared in over 200 movies, described some current actors' performances as "holes in the air" and says Johnny Depp, who Lee worked with on upcoming movie 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', is the only star he's impressed with.

He told Britain's Total Film magazine: "Johnny Depp, as far as I'm concerned, is number one. Of his generation, there's no one who can touch him. Some performers today, it's like looking at holes in the air.

"You get these young, over-hyped stars with very little experience, pitched into big-budget movies in major roles and they can't handle them. It's extremely dangerous because it means they're not going to last long."

Lee, 82, also revealed he is till upset that his his scene as wizard Saruman was cut from the final 'Lord of the Rings' film - because it left the audience questioning what happened to him.

Lee was furious when he realised his screen time in the 2003 sequel 'The Return of the King' had been scrapped - but says it had nothing to do with his ego.

He said: "My point was not that, as an actor, I'd had my scenes taken out. It was the story. The audience would demand, as they did, to know what happened to him.

"I was given plenty of reasons why I was cut out, none of which made sense. Everything that happens, that Saruman's responsible for. And that's why it was so extraordinary that they didn't have me in the third film."
