Cynthia Nixon is engaged.

The 'Sex And The City' star announced plans to wed her girlfriend Christine Marinoni at New York's Love, Peace and Marriage Equality rally on Sunday (17.05.09).

Although the 43-year-old actress did not reveal when or where she plans to tie the knot, she did say she got engaged in April.

I think we'd like to do it in a real, actual, legal way that the state would recognise

Cynthia - who has two children, Samantha and Charles, with her ex-partner Danny Mozes - and Christine have been dating for around five years.

Last year, the actress said she would only marry Christine when same-sex partnerships were given legal equality.

She said: "I think we would definitely get married if it became legal in New York. I don't really want to get married to get married pretend. I think we'd like to do it in a real, actual, legal way that the state would recognise."

The Love, Peace and Marriage Equality rally was staged to show support for a proposal to make same-sex marriages legally equal to heterosexual unions.
