Ed Westwick keen to romance Cheryl Cole

Ed Westwick has revealed Cheryl Cole is his "ideal" woman and he would love to go on a date with her.

The British actor shot to fame playing arrogant rich teenager Chuck Bass on American television show Gossip Girl. He has been in an on-off relationship with his co-star Jessica Szohr, but the pair recently split up again.

Since Ed is currently single, he has set his sights on getting to know singer Cheryl. He has confessed he has a soft spot for her accent and would love to take her out for dinner.

"Cheryl is ideal. There's something about her soft Geordie accent that just does it for me," he told British newspaper The Daily Mirror. "I'd love to take her for some good old-fashioned fish and chips.

"My dad is from the north east, and girls with those accents... well, they're just amazing."

Cheryl’s divorce from soccer player Ashley Cole was finalised last week and the 27-year-old star has been romantically linked to American dancer Derek Hough in recent months. Even though Cheryl has a long list of men eager to win her affections, Ed believes she would fall for him if they were given the opportunity to play onscreen lovers.

The 23-year-old actor is set to star alongside Pamela Anderson in The Commuter, a short film made by Nokia and he would like Cheryl to appear too.

"I play a double agent and I'd love Cheryl to be in the film. Imagine that," Ed said. "Pammy's in the film too which is great, but Cheryl would be amazing. I'll have to speak to them to write her in. We've got a great team. Can you imagine Cheryl, my leading lady!"
