Eleven extras have been injured on the set of Tom Cruise's's new movie Valkyrie in German set on Sunday (19Aug07). The men were hurt when they fell from an open truck during the shoot in Berlin, when the vehicle went round a bend.The filming was immediately halted and the truck has since been taken for examination to determine what went wrong. Cruise was not present at the time of the accident because he had the weekend off.The film, directed by Bryan Singer, is based on the July Plot to assassinate Hitler led by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who will be portrayed by Cruise. But the film was faced with hearvy criticism when it was announced that Cruise would play Stauffenberg.Germany's Defence Ministry spokesperson claimed that the film would not be allowed to be shot in Germany if Cruise was in the lead role.

Cruise's Scientology beliefs are considered a to be a pretence of religion by Germany.
