Ewan McGregor is 'in love' with Danny Boyle

Ewan McGregor admits he is a bit ''in love'' with director Danny Boyle because of the work they did together at the beginning of their careers.

Ewan McGregor is "in love" with director Danny Boyle.

The actor worked with the filmmaker on British films 'Shallow Grave' and 'Trainspotting' which kick-started both their careers and led to them to find Hollywood success.

Ewan - who also made 'A Life Less Ordinary', which starred Cameron Diaz, with Danny - insists he will never forget what the director did to help him.

He said: "It ended after 'A Life Less Ordinary' which is a great shame. There's a lot of water under the bridge since then.

"I loved him. I was really kind of in love with Danny. I'd look across and see him and I'd be very happy that he was there. It wasn't a sexual affair, but I really loved him as a man. I had such admiration for him."

Ewan's career continued to go from strength-to-strength, with him appearing in the 'Star Wars' prequels as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but while he enjoyed being in big budget movies, he prefers working on low budget independent films, like when he and Danny started out.

He added to Esquire magazine: "['Star Wars'] paid me more money than I've ever been paid before and they put my price up for studio pictures. They also opened me up to a broader audience.

"But who I am is an independent film actor. I'm happy making 'Beginners' or 'Perfect Sense', driving to work on a small production with people who I know by name. I like to be around people who are excited about making films. In the big movies everything slows down and everything becomes more about the shot than the acting."

Danny, 54, went on to win the Best Director Oscar for his acclaimed 2008 movie 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
