Florence Welch Crippled By 'Anxiety'

Florence Welch's brain is "a home for anxiety and fear".

The Florence and the Machine singer is constantly plagued by her "inner critics" and often sobs uncontrollably on the floor because of her worries.

The 23-year-old redhead revealed: "I'm prone to falling into severe psychological holes. My brain is a home for anxiety and fear. I hate the idea of hurting someone, of letting people down, or myself down.

On stage, I feel alive and unhindered, the most free from myself. I am interested in being free, and how you get there

"I have several internal critics, in a constant dialogue, but I'm not schizophrenic or anything!"

Florence also has a number of irrational fears, the most crippling being a "terrifying" dread of "technology".

But when it comes to more traditional themes of concern - like death - Florence is ambivalent.

She said: "Death is timeless - death, life, love, faith. Everything else is transient. But thinking about death makes you closer to life.

"On stage, I feel alive and unhindered, the most free from myself. I am interested in being free, and how you get there."
