George Michael was forced to give away tickets to his farewell concert in Abu Dhabi last night (01.12.08).

The 'Careless Whisper' singer didn't want to perform to a half-empty Zayed Sports City Stadium and told organisers to start giving away some of the 35,000 tickets for free after they failed to sell at £35 each.

A source said: "A lot of the youngsters here aren't interested in his music - they are into up-to-date songs. It was really embarrassing."

A statement on his official website read: These very special shows will naturally feature Michael's hits, some tracks not previously performed in Britain, and a stunning new stage set

The concert, which was to mark the United Arab Emirates' Independence Day, opened with a performance from Alicia Keys - who revealed she was thrilled to be singing alongside former Wham! star George.

She said: "I have listened to George since I was a child. I wouldn't say that he has inspired my music but I'm a big fan. I love his hits like 'Freedom' and 'Faith'."

The 27-year-old star also said she loves being in the Middle East, adding: "Abu Dhabi is an up and coming city so it makes performing here really exciting. Things are totally outrageous, huge and beautiful."

In June, George revealed his performances at London's Earls Court in August would be his "last ever UK arena shows".

A statement on his official website read: "These very special shows will naturally feature Michael's hits, some tracks not previously performed in Britain, and a stunning new stage set. These shows are truly not to be missed by any George Michael fan."Since shooting to fame in the 80s, George has become one of the biggest pop stars of all time.He has sold over 100 million records worldwide and his hits include 'Careless Whisper', 'Faith' and 'Outside'.
