Jack Black has revealed he started acting because it made him more popular at school. The 'King Kong' star admits he was always an attention seeker in his younger days and was desperate to be accepted by his peers. He told Britain's Live magazine: "When I was 13 I talked my stepfather into taking me on auditions. I had this idea that if my friends saw me on TV I would automatically become more popular." Despite his early ambition, Black admits he never expected to make it as a successful actor. The comic star, who has appeared in a string of hit films, including 'Rock School' and 'High Fidelity', insists he has his early theatre days to thank for his later success. He added: "I was lucky I could channel all my crazy teenage energy into theatre, but I never expected to be successful at all. "Just to make a living and be a guy in the background would have been enough, but this has been beyond my wildest dreams."
