Janet Jackson is trying for a baby.

The 42-year-old singer - who cancelled a series of tour dates recently - has reportedly been persuaded by fiance Jermaine Dupri that now is the right time to conceive.

He convinced her it was time to quit for a while, to take care of herself and to let nature take its course

A source said: "Jermaine feels since Janet's tour was less than a smash hit it would be the perfect time to start a new project - a baby!

"Janet is 42 years old. Jermaine wants to get married and have a child before it's too late."

Jermaine, 36, is said to have convinced Janet to cancel some of her scheduled performances because he didn't want to put the singer's chances of falling pregnant at risk.

The source added to National Enquirer magazine: "Jermaine wanted Janet to focus on her health so that if she gets pregnant, there won't be problems that could prevent her from carrying to full term. After hearing Jermaine's logic, she decided to cancel the tour.

"Jermaine explained that the music will always be there. He convinced her it was time to quit for a while, to take care of herself and to let nature take its course."
