Jesse Metcalfe is in a wheelchair and can "barely walk" after a near-fatal accident.

The former 'Desperate Housewives' star is recovering after falling 40ft from a nightclub balcony after hosting the World Music Awards in Monaco, France, on Sunday (09.11.08).

A spokesman said: "Jesse knows he's had a very lucky escape. The accident could have been fatal.

"It was a very scary experience for him and those of us who saw him. It was a nasty fall.

"I have just come from the hospital and he is bearing up OK. He can barely walk as he hasn't got much movement in his legs."

The star is currently being treated at a North London hospital. He was given an MRI scan which confirmed there was no damage to his brain.
