Johnny Cash's former home burned to the ground yesterday afternoon (10.04.07).The lakeside house in Hendersonville, Tennessee - which is now owned by Bee Gees singer Barry Gibb and was undergoing construction - caught ablaze and despite the efforts of the local fire department the building could not be saved.Cash's brother Tommy said: "It literally burned to the ground."I watched it burn. I couldn't believe that it was happening. It was just horrible." The famous glass and wood building on the shore of Old Hickory Lake apparently caught fire after a spark ignited a wood preservative applied to the interior.Hendersonville fire chief Jamie Steele said: "We have a pretty good idea what happened."Gibb and his wife Linda bought the house last January.The couple released a statement saying: "We are both saddened and devastated by the news."
Cash bought the house in 1968 and he and his wife June Carter Cash lived there until their deaths in 2003.
