“Man, I wish I could see Denni’s face right now,” Drew gloats, news yet to reach him of the accident. And even when it does, he seems less concerned about the fates of Denni and Lisa than he does about hiding “The Beast” and its bonnet full of stolen parts. With that task out of the way, he realises that he can’t evade police questioning for ever and pays a visit to the station, where he walks in on Jazz making a scene by protesting his innocence. “Drew knows the difference between right and wrong,” she argues, blissfully unaware of his partaking in more than a little illegal activity during recent weeks. Either way, he doesn’t see fit to take up her suggestion of waiting for a lawyer before he starts talking, and soon reveals that, despite the fact he’s raced before, it’s not something he’s guilty of this time around. His story may match up with Ric’s, but there’s only one way the police can be sure: they need to cross-match tire prints – which is no mean feat when the car they need to examine has, coincidentally, gone missing. While the police promise to track it down at any cost, Drew takes his chances and preoccupies himself with trying to rip out all the illegal modifications he’s made – but it hasn’t escaped Belle’s notice that Drew’s silence is particularly callous, considering that, while Denni’s in a stable condition at Summer Bay’s hospital, Lisa has suffered severe head injuries and is currently being treated in the city.Last goodbyeAs news of Lisa’s condition starts to spread, it’s Lucas who is hit the hardest. He hates himself for letting Lisa think that he was ashamed of her and remains painfully aware that he could have done more to stop her getting back in the car with Denni. “I just stood back and let her try to take care of it on her own,” he tells Tony, who’s only just starting to realise the depth of Luc’s feelings. But there’s worse to come. The heartbreaking news that Lisa’s injuries have proved fatal is enough to send Luc spiralling out of control. Putting his own guilt aside, he pays Denni a visit in hospital to confront him about what’s happened – and it soon turns violent. It’s only when Tony steps in that Luc’s forced to face up to losing Lisa; a realisation which sees him breaking down in his father’s arms. Guilty as charged

Back to the police investigation, and it’s not just Belle who stands to lose something if Drew continues to lie about the whereabouts of the car. “The cops are investigating a major accident, and you’re making us look guilty,” Ric warns, still failing to get through to him.

Drew’s convinced that by stripping the car down before handing it over, he can exonerate himself for buying hot parts from Dom. (No, we’re not sure how he thinks they’d buy that one, either.) It’s only with news of Lisa’s death that Belle finally manages to reawaken Drew’s conscience – but his worries are far from over. The police may be able to clear him from any involvement in the accident, but that doesn’t mean he’s off the hook. “You were wrong to give us the run-around with your car today,” Fitz begins. “We know why, and we’ll be charging you on two counts: the first is obstructing an official investigation, and the second is possession of stolen goods.” Jazz can only look on in disbelief, as she realises that this time there’s no way out. “You can start telling the truth, or be fast tracked to jail. What’s it gonna be?” Fitz asks a stunned Drew.
