Posh & Becks Nominated for their First Ever Loaded LAFTAS AwardThe biggest names in showbiz are set to go head-to-head at this year’s Loaded LAFTAS Comedy Awards with NIVEA FOR MEN® and Russell Brand and comedy duo Justin Lee Collins and Alan Carr are leading the pack with three nominations each. Brand will battle it out in the Best Stand Up, Funniest Newspaper Columnist and Funniest Man category – where he is joined by Carr and Collins. They also appear in Funniest Double Act and Funniest TV Programme.Meanwhile awards newcomers, Posh & Becks are hoping to walk away with silverware for their new Hollywood pad after being nominated for Funniest Double Act!The LAFTAS are best known for being the only reader-voted comedy awards, where winners can bask in the knowledge that their gongs have been voted for by the most important of audiences – the Great British public. Celebrating the British sense of humour the Loaded LAFTAS awards the underbelly of comedy – the things in everyday life which make us laugh, from DJs to reality TV, and even the antics of the Beckhams, whose quest to conquer the States this year have clearly tickled the British Public. Perhaps it’s Victoria’s growing comedy chest or her attempts to integrate into American culture by pitching at base ball matches that have had the British public laughing. They face stiff competition from current holders Carr and Collins, plus hard hitting comedy duos The Mighty Boosh’s Fielding and Barratt and Mitchell and Webb, who all go head-to-head for the Funniest TV Programme also. In his ongoing quest for global domination, big-haired loudmouth Brand heads the race to LAFTAS glory, but it will be no walkover for Brand as he squares up against posh-suited gagster Jimmy Carr and The Office legend Ricky Gervais for Best Stand Up, as well as US funnyman Will Ferrell for the Funniest Man title. The prestigious annual event, now in its fifth year, will be held at London’s trendy Pigalle club on Thursday 4th October, with a stellar line up of British comics and celebrities turning up to collect their gongs.

Fulfilling a lifelong ambition (to finally be told he is funnier than his wife), everyone’s favourite perma-tanned Australian Peter Andre, will hope to get his share of the spoils as Funniest Reality TV Person – but we can only wait and see how he copes without Jordan by his side to hold his hand in this category.

The UK’s funniest ladies will be practicing their one-liners in a last ditch attempt to claim the much coveted award for Funniest Woman. In this much-coveted category, Catherine ‘am I bovvered’ Tate lines up against last year’s winner Ashley Jensen, as well as Michelle Gomez, Olivia Coleman and Karen Taylor.

Other big clashes at this year’s Loaded LAFTAS with NIVEA FOR MEN® include heavyweight DJ Chris Moyles and his significantly smaller counterpart Scott Mills battling it out for the Funniest Radio Show award. It remains to be seen whether Moyles will be relieved of his title or whether the Leeds- born DJ will be laughing all the way back to Radio 1.

Loaded editor Martin Daubney said: “It’s been a vintage year for comedy and the nominations in this years LAFTAS are a testament to that. The LAFTAS are voted for by the Great British public which makes them the only comedy awards worth their salt. What we have here are the funniest fellas and fillies in the land - and a few surprises, too. We all know Peter Andre’s a clown, but who’d have thought he’d appear on the same list as such comic genius as Ricky Gervais?"

The Loaded LAFTAS with NIVEA FOR MEN® provide a welcome anecdote to stuffy television comedy awards and are now a firm tick in the diary for every comedian and celebrity across the land. Comedy really is the new rock ‘n’ roll!
