Docu-Desperate:Why do Celebs Televise their Dramas?

When everything goes wrong for celebrities some hit the bottle, some go into hiding and others make a documentary.

Yes, the latest craze in Celeb land isn’t Kabbalah or yoga, the rave is now fly-on-the-wall documentaries where we’re invited to share the everyday turmoil’s and joys of the famous.

So what drives celebrities to expose warts and all to the public? Maybe it’s due to the huge success of The Osbourne’s that entices celebs to cash in on the act. This documentary of a dysfunctional family was a hit with MTV viewers and even picked up an Emmy Award. An instant popularity boost and an award to pop in the cabinet could well be the reason why so many celebrities have followed pursuit.

Totally Jodie Marsh

Jodie Marsh felt the burden of being a Singleton was too much to bear when she decided to go in search of a husband on her MTV show Totally Jodie Marsh: Who’ll Take Her up the Aisle? Jodie bypassed a succession of geeks, players and millionaires to reach her Prince Charming ex-boyfriend Matt Peacock (was it not possible to just give him a call?)

The romance of the fairy-tale wedding was short-lived however when it was revealed that the marriage was a fraud. Hidden camera footage revealed the pair talking about their relationship before his audition; Jodie still denies these claims to this day but will finally confess up to her reality TV show being “vile.”

Totally Lisa Scott Lee

When your career is at an all-time low what would be the best way to get back on track again? The answer for Lisa Scott Lee was to hire a camera crew to follow her around for a year for her own documentary series titled ‘Totally Lisa Scott Lee.’ The point of this programme was not to find a suitor but to score a top ten hit in the charts or give up on a solo career entirely. Not much pressure then. Unfortunately for Lisa her released single ‘Electric’ only climbed up to number thirteen, soon after her pop flop the show was axed.

Britney and Kevin: Chaotic

Britney Spears personal home videos couldn’t be titled better. Britney and Kevin: Chaotic followed the pair’s initial meeting, romancing and marriage. The five episodes allowed an exclusive insight on the couple’s relationship. With unrequited love and marriages shrouded in secrecy it was all too plain to see the two were not destined to last. Now Britney’s only remains of what they shared is on DVD, we say bargain bin it Brit where it belongs!

Crazy in Love

Fed up with the negative and hounding press Kerry Katona was determined to set things straight with her new series ‘Crazy in Love.’ However the documentary has just sparked further cynicism since pregnant Kerry was shown puffing away on a cigarette. Further attacks of criticism hit hubby Mark Croft with claims he is a gold digger and allegations of his affair with Samantha Riaz does not help clear his name. With Kerry’s recent hospitalization the series has been postponed until further notice, we say keep it that way till you make a full recovery Kerry!

The thing these celebrities must get their head around is that reality TV means ultimate exposure. Celebrities cannot count on the producers to be loyal with editing or rely on good old airbrushing to portray them in a positive light.

It is here where celebrities trip up; many who have attempted the Osborne’s incredible feat have been thrown to the lions or torn to shreds by the critics. Survivors of the reality TV craze should throw the last scraps of humiliating footage out the window and whatever they do resist the temptation do to Celebrity Big Brother.
