'Gossip Girl' actress Leighton Meester can't resist "dark and bad" men.

The 22-year-old star, who plays high school queen bee Blair Waldorf in the hit US TV show, has something in common with her character - they are both attracted to wild men.

She said: "I think guys who are rebels and make their own rules are appealing. I don't want to tame anybody. I want them to be dark and bad.

I guess I've just been really distracted by work

"Guys who are a little bad - and by bad, I mean they're not like constantly around - I consider gold. Guys who are unavailable are actually a dream come true for me because I'm unavailable all the time. It's great they're not down your throat."

Leighton, who has been dating actor Sebastian Stan since 2007, insists she is an independent person and doesn't need a man to make her happy.

She added to Seventeen magazine: "I haven't ever really relied on relationships with guys. They come around and it's cool, but it's never been a big thing. I guess I've just been really distracted by work."

Leighton also says she is happy to give people second chances and doesn't jump to conclusions.

Speaking about her difficult upbringing - her mother was serving a prison sentence when she gave birth to Leighton - the beautiful brunette said: "It made me realise that you can't judge anyone - especially your parents - for what they've done in their past, because people change."
