M.I.A. is living in a council house.
The 'Paper Planes' hitmaker - real name Maya Arulptragasam - is temporarily staying with her mother in London, and admits she "feels bad" about the conditions she is in with her son Ikhyd, 15 months, but thinks it will ultimately be good for him.
The singer -who usually lives with long-term partner Benjamin Bronfman in Los Angeles - said: "I'm sleeping in a box room in a council house with my baby. I'm living out my parallel reality. What could have been, or what could still be.
"My mum's got a £30 pram that her church gave here. One of the wheels doesn't work.
"I feel bad doing this to Ikhyd, but I think it's good for him in the long run.
"My mum's just so ghetto. In Los Angeles, he's got a state-of-the-art, pimped-out thing with a body kit. It was a present from Jimmy Iovine, from Interscope records, when he was born."
The rapper - who famously performed at the Grammy Awards while nine months pregnant - also revealed Academy Awards bosses were so desperate for her to perform at the ceremony last year, days after she gave birth, they offered to build her a flying hospital bed.
She explained: "When I woke up in my hospital bed after I'd given birth, there were four people standing over me on cellphones.
"One said, 'I've got the Oscars here and they need to know right now whether you're going to perform'. I was like, 'Why the f**k are you next to my bed? What the f**k is wrong with you?'
"I got a call the next day saying, 'The Oscars are willing to build you a hospital bed that flies, so they can fly you in your bed onto the stage to sing your part.' "
